The fruits of an intimate relationship with God
Let’s look at our relationship with God again. We must be singled-minded in our pursuit of an intimate relationship with God. Only within such an intimate relationship with God where you and I can really grow, where we can learn and become more like Jesus.
In an intimate relationship with God, 10You don’t need a telescope, a microscope, or a horoscope to realize the fullness of Christ, and the emptiness of the universe without him. When you come to him, that fullness comes together for you, too. His power extends over everything.
We can get everything we need on a spiritual level from Jesus Christ. He is in control of all spiritual powers and He will make sure that we don’t lack anything. Christ will help us to make the right decisions. He will help us not to take the wrong turns and save us from a lot of struggle.
I remember years ago when my wife and I had a disagreement.
I was still involved in the business world and worked very hard. One week I was away for business. I got home exhausted the Friday evening, but still very excited to be home and looking forward to a relaxing time with my family, having some fun.
But as I walked in the door, my wife and I had a misunderstanding. And you know, when you start running away like a Lister engine, you go and get all those things from the past that are still bothering you. And quickly the atmosphere was thicker than pea soup. The whole Saturday was messed up and no one felt like doing anything. And by the end of the day I knew there was only one winner: The enemy!
Why, oh why do we allow our happiness to be stolen like that?
One of the biggest reasons why we fight with one another is because in that moment we turn away slightly from God’s guidance. The own self, the selfish self, takes over.
Yes, Jesus was victorious over all the powers, but if we don’t stay close to Him, we cannot hear his guidance. then we stand alone and we are definitely too weak to conquer the enemy. Just like my wife and I stepped into the trap and messed up a whole weekend of togetherness.
Read verse 10 again. The condition is to be in an intimate relationship with Him. When something goes wrong, we repeatedly look for the cause of it in the wrong place, and normally not in ourselves. However, when we are in an intimate relationship with God, we will be sensitive to his voice and will be saved from ending up in such unnecessary situations where we lose all our joy.
Look for God and call out to Him. Put some effort into your relationship. Spend time with God so that an intimate relationship in which you will certainly lack for nothing, can grow between you and Him.
Scripture
Reflection
Where do you lack anything?
With what do you struggle?
How intimate is your relationship with God?
Prayer
Lord, we need You! We mess up without You. You have the wisdom. I want to spend more time with You so that I can hear your voice and can know how to walk the right road. Amen.
