How can you not?
I have the privilege of marrying a friend from long ago. It’s nice to get together and hear the old stories again. We talk about our children and where they are in the world now.
He tells me about his one daughter who’s doing missionary work. He says that’s all she wants to do, just help people everywhere, and tell them about the Lord. When they go to the Spar and he sees someone who looks needy, he tries to avoid them, while she doesn’t. That person attracts her like a magnet. She walks straight up to the person and wants to help. She wants to tell them about the Saving God. She can’t stop herself. What’s inside her comes bubbling out.
Actually, we should all be like my friend’s daughter. We are called by God to do this. He set us apart and chose us to serve Him and walk on His path. It’s really special that God thinks so much of us and helps us to believe in Him.
9-10But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.
Unfortunately, not everyone buys into this. People think serving God is for the birds. It is actually so ironic that this is exactly what nature does every day. Nature is a demonstration of the miracles of God.
Leanne Crawford sings a song How can you not:
I see the sun rise in the morning
And a million stars at night
I hear the birds, they can’t stop singing hallelujah
I see His goodness when I fall down
And it’s grace that picks me up
Every day, I can’t stop singing hallelujah
How can you not see God
In every little thing, in every little moment?
How can you not feel loved?
How can you not? How can you not?
‘Cause He’s in the middle of
Every little thing and every little moment
How can you not see God?
How can you not?
How can you not?
I see the sunset and I wonder
If He paints it just for me
Nobody else could make a world so beautiful
How could I question His love when it’s everywhere I go
Wherever I look, I find another miracle
How can you not see God
May you always be on the lookout for another creative way in which God wants to surprise you.
Scripture
1 Peter 2:9-12
Reflection
Do you belong to God?
Alone?
Who should you tell about His miracles?
Prayer
Lord, I want to overflow from all the miracles that You are still doing here on earth today. In nature, in people and in many circumstances. Open my eyes that I will not be blind to all Your miracles. I ask this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
