Kneel
I don’t like sci-fi movies. And horror movies even less. I don’t have the stomach for it. They give me the heebie jeebies right from the start, so I simply get up and go and do nothing somewhere else.
If you take all the movies ever made in this genre and put them all together, you will still not get to that place in hell where Jesus had been imprisoned for a few days. How repulsive, gross, dead and whatever other black words one could think of this must have been for Jesus. The complete opposite of what He was used to – absolute, deathly humiliation.
Fortunately, we know the story doesn’t end here: 9Because of that obedience, God lifted him high and honored him far beyond anyone or anything, ever …
You cannot keep a good man down.
We are truly grateful that Jesus conquered death and hell. God was also very grateful and, therefore, He made Jesus the most important person. Now all people on earth have the chance to walk into heaven, because of what Jesus had done. I can totally understand why God gave Him the most glorious position right next to Him.
10… so that all created beings in heaven and on earth—even those long ago dead and buried—will bow in worship before this Jesus Christ 11and call out in praise that he is the Master of all, to the glorious honor of God the Father.
Jesus certainly deserves it! Jesus took all our sin on his shoulders. Because of Him you and I can now enter heaven. That is why He deserves all the glory and honour we can give to Him. Jesus deserves to have the most important position in heaven. He, who had to go through hell, now sits at God’s right hand.
The question is: What difference does this make to our lives here on earth? We’re not in heaven yet, but we do know what Jesus has done for us. Shouldn’t this have an impact on our life today? Yes, for sure it should affect the way we walk through life.
An older version says every knee shall bow before Jesus and that is exactly how our lives should look – a life where we live kneeling down before Jesus. Kneeling down before Jesus leaves no space for being hateful to and for fighting with others. No space for the own self to stand up. No, from down below you can see the need of others, you are where they are and you can and want to do something.
Jesus was not too high and mighty. Jesus walked among ordinary people where He made an enormous impact. When we kneel before Him and walk with Him through life, we will automatically see the need of others and do something about it.
May this be true in all of our lives!
Reflection
Do you believe in Jesus?
Is your life kneeling down?
Do you see others?
Prayer
Father, I bow down before your Son, Jesus, because He is our Lord. May my life bear witness that Jesus is King of my heart and that I do everything that I do for Him. Amen
