Salvation is for everyone
On organ donors’ day the radio station broadcast programmes to make people aware of organ donation. I never knew that they called it ‘harvesting’ organs! And the listeners called in with various questions, the ones one normally asks: do they ensure that I’m completely dead before they take my organs? Can I donate my organs if I have this or that disease? Up to what age can I donate organs, etc?
I was surprised, no, shocked, when someone phoned in to ask whether parts of other races would work for him as well! Others went even further and stated that they would rather die than receive another race’s organs!
Man, are we so far removed from the truth? Have we become so exclusive that we would die for the cause? That was not God’s idea. God created us similar, with red blood, pumping hearts and arteries kilometres long. What makes me too good or too bad to refuse another human being’s organ? It makes me want to throw up when I see how people mess up God’s image.
Some people will probably get a shock when they get to heaven and see all races there. 28In Christ’s family there can be no division into Jew and non-Jew, slave and free, male and female. Among us you are all equal. That is, we are all in a common relationship with Jesus Christ.
There is no preference. You will not have an easier or more difficult entry to heaven because you are the correct or wrong race, colour or gender. There is only one entry ticket to heaven and that is the “I belong to Christ” ticket. That is the only key that can unlock the gates of heaven for you.
Faith in Christ – that’s all!
Maybe we should make a point of living this equality in Christ out there in the world. Maybe we should start doing what we believe and make sure there are no inequalities.
How will we be able to that?
I don’t know, because I myself don’t even have all the answers to my own questions. And that is why we have to pray and ask God to help us with this. Let’s be prepared to treat each other as family and not to see ourselves as superior to others.
Reflection
Where in your life do you have to break down boundaries?
Are you exclusive?
What does God expect of you?
Prayer
Lord, help me to love those who also believe in You as my brothers and sisters. Help me to treat everybody with respect. Help me to cross the boundaries erected by my culture and really love others like I do myself. Lord, I’m actually afraid and don’t really know what to do, but when You go before me like a cloud I feel up to it. Amen
