Anchored in God’s Word
On the yacht I learned a few things about the anchor.
One is that you cannot use the anchor in some places. The chain holding the yacht’s anchor is about 50 metres long. Our instructor taught us that we cannot go everywhere with the yacht, because some places are too deep.
If we get into trouble, the anchor chain would be too short and the anchor wouldn’t reach the bottom to protect us in a storm.
I realise all too well that we cannot go and play around anywhere in the world, thinking that our knowledge of God’s Word will protect us everywhere. No, I’m not putting limitations or boundaries on the power of the knowledge of God’s Word. But we shouldn’t think that knowledge of God’s Word will swoop down like a super hero to save us from trouble everywhere. We simply have to stay away from some places in the world where the danger of us slipping is just too great.
For example, don’t type sexual words into your phone’s search engine. The bottom is too deep for your anchor. If you’re not married yet, make sure of the boundaries and ensure that you and your partner don’t end up in dangerous places where you slip past the last turning point. The bottom is too deep for the anchor.
When you do a transaction in your business, do everything above board, because it’s easy to take a few Rand, but just as easy to put a zero behind the number. Rather stay away from that area. That’s what God’s Word teaches us.
We can end up in many different places that are already too deep for knowledge of God’s Word to help us walk the straight road.
I learned more about the boat’s anchor. They say 40 metres extra chain should be unrolled when dropping anchor. This means the boat can still move around freely. The waves will still move it to and fro. With each wave, the boat moves up and down and the wind can shift us in any direction.
God’s Word as anchor does not take pain and hardship from life. Because I read God’s Word every day and have lots of wisdom, doesn’t mean I have an inside track to not ever having problems and challenges for the rest of my life. On the contrary.
The yacht’s anchor gives peace of mind. When the waves go up and down and even crashed over the boat, we can still sleep peacefully, knowing the anchor will do its job.
Therefore, our 9… belief in the truth that they (we) have been taught must be strong and steadfast … . We must anchor our whole life in God’s Word. Life can be hard on us. Life can throw curve balls at us. But the knowledge and wisdom of God’s Word will pull us through.
God’s Word will take us by the hand and walk with us through the world, showing us how to do it. Let’s make a plan to ensure that we stay firmly anchored in God’s Word.

Reflection
What areas in your life demands lots of will power to stay away from the boundaries?
Do you believe that God’s Word can be a strong anchor in your life?
Do you mostly rely on your own wisdom or God’s wisdom when the going gets tough?
Prayer
Father, please help me to run away from temptation, no matter what other people think of me. Thank you that Your Word gives me the wisdom I need to go the right way. Amen.
