God's word in today's world

To save a life

I am privileged to have the opportunity to address a number of youth organisations. So, I was talking to an audience of more than a hundred high school group leaders. They were at a weekend camp for training to be leaders in their schools and to help others find their way through life. It is also their task to “introduce” God to others.

This is not easy to do today, because the school and teachers may not necessarily provide support. On the contrary!

As I was busy at one of these appearances, I suddenly stopped, because I was just so overwhelmed by gratitude for these children who were prepared to take up their cross and do what moves them.

In my crooked way I thanked them for being prepared to take a stand. Prepared to let go of main peanut status and living their calling despite the looks and the opposition.

What an enormous responsibility, I said to them, because somewhere there are children who are struggling and have nowhere to go. There are children standing on the edge of the cliff. There are children hiding the cuts under their sleeves. There are children walking around with so many questions. There are children whose love tanks are completely empty.

God called each of these leaders to be his hands, feet, ears and mouth, to be a light to everyone who is searching and struggling and dragging along a heavy load.

What a privilege! What a huge responsibility!

3And then when the time was ripe, He went public with his truth. I’ve been entrusted to proclaim this Message by order of our Savior, God himself.

Yes, now is exactly the right time for them to spread the good news at their school and university or work. God is the only answer to all these problems. They have the answer and they can make a huge difference in the lives of others. They can even save lives.

I showed them a news report from Netnuus: Up to 20% of high school learners in SA have already attempted to commit suicide. I asked the first two rows to stand up, approximately 20% of the group. I said: “This is 20% of you. This is how many children from a group such as yours have attempted suicide. Just think how many 20% of your school is …”

They gasped.

“Yes, you can save a life.”

Obviously, this command is not only for children, but for each of us. For you too.

Now is the right time. Now is the right time to live this wonderful message of salvation in your environment. Now is the time to save lives!

Scripture
Titus 1:1-4

Reflection
Where can you save a life?
Whose life has left the road?
What do you have to do to start?

Prayer
Lord, I know You do not want any person to be lost. Give me the courage to share the good news of Your salvation with others. Amen.
