A group for Jesus
Whenever I find a piece of luck, I quickly tell all my friends about it. When I hear about Karoo sheep for sale at a good price, I share the info with all my friends.
I can’t help myself. I want everyone to experience the same good fortune. Yes, sometimes I’ve bought a pig in a poke. Once I heard of a farmer who wanted to empty his stores to make room for the new harvest.
I should’ve known it was too good to be true and the price far too low for quality products. This piece of luck cost me and my friends dearly and we had to throw everything down the drain.
Even so, one mistake doesn’t impede my speed and when I hear about another good offer, I simply set up a WhatsApp group inviting people to participate in the wonderful bargain.
When I stop for a while and think about the wonderful gift God gave us through Jesus, I wonder why I don’t have a bunch of WhatsApp groups to tell my friends about this.
Good question!
Jesus had some friends that He could teach. The youngest of his group was John. Jesus had a special affection for John, and when faced with challenging times, John was one of the three disciples He chose as companions.
John couldn’t keep quiet about Jesus, and I suspect that if mobile phones were available in his time, he would have used them to invite everyone, whether they wanted to or not, to join a WhatsApp group.
John would’ve posted about the miracles that Jesus did every day. He would’ve informed everyone about the Light that had arrived for the dark world. He would’ve encouraged everyone to accept Jesus as their Savior.
That’s why he writes: 1From the very first day, we were there, taking it all in—we heard it with our own ears, saw it with our own eyes, verified it with our own hands. The Word of Life appeared right before our eyes; we saw it happen!
John was there and got the T-shirt. Fortunately, he didn’t keep it to himself. Instead, he did everything possible to tell the rest of the world. So much so that after 2 000 years we can still read about it.
Today we have many more ways to share Jesus’ stories with the world. Within a few minutes we can put together a small group and by typing a short message on a phone announce life-saving words to a group of people. All the time!
I wonder if the Lord is also calling you to spread His Word among your friends. Shouldn’t you also share the life-saving news with the people around you?

Reflection
Has Jesus transformed your life?
Do your friends know?
How can you share it with them?
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for turning my life around. I know I have to share the news with my friends too. Give me the strength and courage to do it. Amen.
