God's word in today's world

A holy space

A relationship is a room or space where people can be themselves. It is a holy place where people dare to reach out to one another, help one another, and even correct one another.

If the holy space does not surround and unite people, they do not have a say in one another’s lives. Then I can’t correct my son if he goes wrong. He will only see it as rejection, turn away from me, and it will make the gap between us grow.

However, if there is a relationship or a holy space, we give one another the privilege to correct one another in love. Then we can learn from one another. Then each can grow and learn to make an even bigger difference because that’s why we’re here on earth.

Remember, holy means being set apart, to be made right. In this relationship, we know that we’re set apart for each other at that moment and then. And when we focus on one another, we look out for one another, we care for one another, and we help each other up the mountain.

Do you see I keep mentioning ‘we’ and ‘one another’? In a holy space, two people serve each other in a relationship. The one doesn’t dominate the other. Technically, that isn’t a relationship.

The holy space obviously applies to all relationships. Relationships with your family, friends and loved ones. Even the relationships with your colleagues, employer, and the people you employ.

If there is no holy space, no two-way channel, and no relationship between you, the other one will always experience it as a dressing-down session, and there will come a time when they simply walk away.

Such a holy space not only consists of the knowledge that there is a relationship but actually comes into existence if there is action. When we live for one another in the holy space and do something for one another, only then does it really mean something.

It is the same with God. When we are made right with God,  a holy space exists where we are set apart for God. This is where we can be ourselves and where God can work with us.

In this space, we actually give God the right to say what’s in His heart so that He can shape us. And then we also have the right to ask God to help us with our challenges.

In this space, we realise we can’t just sit still. We will and can, and must respond by taking action and doing.

24Is it not evident that a person is made right with God not by a barren faith but by faith fruitful in works?

May this become true in our holy spaces!

Scripture
James 2:14-26

Reflection
What does your relationship with God look like?
Is it holy?
Does it mobilise you into action?

Prayer
Father, I long for an intimate relationship with You. I surrender myself to a holy space set apart just for You. Let this encourage and motivate me to go and live a difference in the world for You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
