God's word in today's world

A life built on trust

I see I’ve made a mistake. I’ve neglected to refer to the first phrase of verse 17 in the previous piece. It’s the answer to everything. 17Tell them to go after God, who piles on all the riches we could ever manage—to do good, to be rich in helping others, to be extravagantly generous.

Immediately, I’m reminded of the verse about not trusting in men. I google to find out where it is in the Bible. Psalm 146. What a beautiful Psalm that takes me by the hand word by word today. It means so much to me and in a time of wild waves rolling towards me, I find peace:

3Don’t put your life in the hands of experts
who know nothing of life, of salvation life.

4Mere humans don’t have what it takes;
when they die, their projects die with them.

5Instead, get help from the God of Jacob,
put your hope in God and know real blessing!

6God made sky and soil,
sea and all the fish in it.
He always does what he says—

7He defends the wronged,
    He feeds the hungry.
God frees prisoners—

8He gives sight to the blind,
    He lifts up the fallen.

9 God loves good people, protects strangers,
takes the side of orphans and widows,
but makes short work of the wicked.

God is faithful. Look at his people. God was always with them, even though they chose against Him sometimes. When I look at my life, I see that God has never left me, even though I sometimes did not keep Him in my mind. How can God throw what He has made himself to the wolves?

God, who has all the power, will never abandon you. He cares for people who suffer. Is your problem too big to solve? God will help you. Do you feel overcome with sickness? God is there for you! Have you been knocked to the ground? God loves you so much. He will pick you up. Time after time.

10 God’s in charge—always.
Zion’s God is God for good!
    Hallelujah!

Amen!

Scripture
1 Timothy 6:17-21

Reflection
On what do you build your life?
Who do you entrust with everything?
How much do you trust in God?

Prayer
Our Father in heaven, holy is your Name. You are the greatest and most mighty. You create. Yes, You made me too. You will never abandon your creation. Thank you. I trust in You.  Amen.
