A one paragraph CV
As you know, Crossroad’s vision is God’s Word in today’s world. God’s children must be helped to use his Word at life’s crossroads. We don’t discuss themes, but walk verse by verse through the Bible.
Sometimes, when Paul is direct and calls a spade a spade, we have to deal with that too, even if it exposes us, or hits us where we’ve been bruised already. To leave out some verses would be like ripping those pages out of the Bible and saying those bits don’t apply to me.
Let’s fasten our belts and listen and learn and walk with Paul. May our walk through the book of Titus be a wonderful journey and may we reach the other side simply because God touched us through his Word.
During our student days we were taught how to put together a CV. Yes, put together, because it was a thick document. The letter from the pastor and the principal, with all your leadership positions and sports achievements in capital letters. We couldn’t “bold” yet, because we had to use a typewriter!
Obviously, all the academic achievements had to be listed too. I must confess that most of the times I only listed the subjects I had passed and not my grades … In our days a CV was a complete summary of your whole life.
Today, people simply don’t have the time to work through all that. Anyway, what do your sports achievements and the fact that you were class captain have to do with your job as secretary or accountant?
They receive far too many applications. I remember when we advertised on Gumtree for an accountant at the factory, and hundreds of CVs were submitted within an hour.
Today people usually ask for a one-page CV. Yes, you have to say what you want to say on one page and based on that you will be invited for an interview or not.
What would my page look like?
But let’s take it further. If you had to summarise yourself in one paragraph, what would it say?
Well, let me try: I serve God and I believe in Jesus. God has called me to help his children to believe in Him. I must take them by the hand and by means of the Crossroad online ministry help them to discover the truth in God’s Word. This truth transforms you and makes you walk God’s road.
These four sentences tell you exactly who I believe in and what my purpose on earth is. Although these words describe me almost to a t, I’ve plagiarised somewhat. This is actually Paul’s CV set out at the beginning of the book Titus. He writes: 1I, Paul, am God’s slave and Christ’s agent for promoting the faith among God’s chosen people, getting out the accurate word on God and how to respond rightly to it.
Actually, each of us should have a one-paragraph CV like this one. Yes! That’s what we should strive for. Everybody must be able to see that we believe in God and know that we have a passion to help others follow God’s way.
Let’s try it. Go and write Paul’s one-paragraph CV for yourself and go and live it.

What does your CV look like?
What do you have to work on?
How do you have to go out and live differently?
Prayer
Father, I know I still have to make many changes to my way of life. Yes, I believe in You, but sometimes I don’t lead my brothers and sisters on the right road. But I want to live like Paul. Please help me, Holy Spirit, to change the way I walk through life so that others want to and will follow me. Amen.
