Everyone knows about the war between Russia and Ukraine. It’s on every news channel. But do you know that civil wars are happening in Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Yemen and Saudi Arabia? Then there are the 20 other countries that are also engaged in wars, mainly against terrorists or drug syndicates.

It looks rough in the world. It makes us shudder and wonder what it will look like when the great powers of the world grab each other.

There are also wars going on in our own country. The government has declared war on all the corrupt people. Residents of towns have declared war on the municipalities that do nothing and just watch the infrastructure fall apart.

In many marriages, a war is waged and we know there are no winners from such a war. Maybe you are battling with an unstable relationship.

Once again, I realise just how much the world needs peace. The world longs for peacemakers. Time and time again, Russia and Ukraine sit around the table with peace talks, but sadly, no agreement can be reached.

The net effect is that millions of people are uprooted, towns are razed to the ground, and mass graves are dug.

The world yearns for peace. Peace is the seed that can profoundly change people’s lives. If only the peacemakers around the table in Russia agree, and manage to plant a seed of peace. How great would that be for millions of people? Millions of people can return to humanity and normal life!

And that is actually exactly what every Christian should do: ¹⁷Real wisdom, God’s wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced.

In other words, we must be peace-loving. We must love peace and take it with us everywhere. Where people are busy making war in their marriages or other relationships, we who love and adhere to peace and have stores full of it must go and sow it. Somewhere the seed will come up.

The word content comes to my mind. The definition is to be in a state of peaceful happiness. And this is what we who are children of God must pursue. We must seek peace, so that joy can once again reign in our immediate surroundings.

If we all go to the war zones where we live and sow a seed of peace, people’s lives can change in an instant. May we take this command seriously so that joy will take possession of our lives everywhere.

Prayer
Father, thank you very much that I also have a calling. I don’t always know exactly how to live it, but I will look for places to sow peace. Give me the wisdom. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
