God's word in today's world

Begin, even though it doesn’t look right yet

Joshua 13:7 “I myself will drive them out before the People of Israel. All you have to do is allot this land to Israel as an inheritance, as I have instructed you. Do it now: Allot this land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh.”

Joshua had been in the trenches for a long time now and the great battles to take the land were behind him. But there were still parts of the land that had not yet been conquered.

God instructed Joshua to assign these parts to the tribes. God told the people that they now had to start living His promise. These weren’t just words, but a reality. God’s promise had to take root, and to get it right, the people had to step in.

Many people wait for the perfect moment before they do something, but sometimes you must just start. It’s like Moses at the Red Sea. There was no path. He first had to put his toe in the water before the path opened.

In a way, God was saying that they should not only talk about who He was and what He had promised them. They had to do what they believed in. In other words, start living in what God has already given.

Yes, enemies remained, and portions of the land were still unconquered. But the reality is this: the promise will never be handed to you on a silver platter. You possess the promise the moment you begin moving in obedience.

Intimacy with God demands a life of faith. When we are truly close to Him, we recognise our divine responsibility and embrace it with gratitude. But it doesn’t stop there.  Living out this reality requires daily commitment—a journey sustained by faith, hard work, and endurance.

It was Martin Luther King Jnr. who said, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”

I know it is not easy, but start by writing down the promises that God has already shown you. Choose one practical step to make it your own today. As the saying goes,”Own it”. And do it.

Prayer
Father, I’m afraid of the unknown, but I still grab your promises that have been ringing in my head for so long. I’m going to make them part of my life now …

Questions
What promise or dream am I holding back on because it doesn’t “feel right” yet?
Am I waiting for the perfect time, or am I trusting God enough to start now?
What is the part I must to do in what God has already promised?

Do this now
Write down one promise or dream today that you believe comes from God, but that you’ve been putting off.
Break it down into practical steps that you can start taking today.
Take that step today, even if you still feel uncertain, and trust that God will work out the rest as you move forward.
