Carry out God’s commands well
When I worked in the business world, I didn’t have a great track record of hiring people. And it wasn’t because I didn’t have enough material to work with.
Things work differently these days. You simply post an ad on some platform for a position that needs to be filled, and within an hour, a few hundred CVs come pouring in.
Then it’s time for interviews. One good candidate after another, with neat hair and dressed nicely, sits down in front of you. They all look perfect for the job, and one of them is hired.
Within the first few days, I quickly realised: I’ve bought a pig in a poke. This kite isn’t going to stay in the air for long. Well, I don’t even know if it’s going to get off the ground.
The problem is that the person simply doesn’t do what I ask. They do their own thing. I don’t know if they think their way works better, but my instructions just aren’t being carried out.
And then, as one might expect, the relationship doesn’t last long. They leave either by their own choice or under duress.
It also works that way with our faith. Because we have our own minds, we make our own plans, and we always think our way of doing things is the best.
Maybe it’s the “by grace alone” theology that causes us to think like this. We’re saved by grace, not based on what we’ve done. That is true. But that doesn’t mean that we need not do anything for the rest of our lives as children of God.
This is certainly not what is expected of us. Just look at this: 3The proof that we love God comes when we keep his commandments and they are not at all troublesome.
When you work for a boss, you have to do what he says you must do. You’re expected to do certain things and not do certain things. After all, that’s what you’re paid to do.
As children of God, we also have tasks to carry out. We cannot just mess around like we did in the past. We must now align our lives with what God wants us to do.
Books have been written about what these tasks are. The tasks also vary from person to person. However, the best guidance on how each of us should live—where we live, work, and play—can be found in living like Jesus.
Jesus is the Son of God, and He carried out God’s commands perfectly, all the way to the cross and through death and resurrection. We must do as He did, because then we will do exactly as God expects of us.
Follow in the footsteps of your Brother, Jesus. Then you will know you are exactly where God wants you to be right now.

Reflection
Where am I still going my own way and not following in Jesus’ footsteps?
How can I trust God’s guidance more today?
What does it look like when I intentionally walk in Jesus’ footsteps every day?
Prayer
Father, I want to do as Your heart desires. I know I still miss the mark here and there. Give me the wisdom and strength to walk in Your will every time. Amen.
