I get tears in my eyes when I read Ann’s (not her real name) story: 

We spent the day with our children on Saturday. The year had been so chaotic and upside down that we just had to get everything together again. 

My grandson, Alex, who is two and a half years old, was also with us. He had mastered sign language to a level that amazed us, but this is typical of boys who only start talking later. We put this reluctance to use words in the hands of Abba Father. 

With that said, on Saturday he came and kissed my feet. 

Gauteng was wet this weekend, and we were camping. So, my feet were pretty dirty, because I am a barefoot grandma. 

My first reaction was: “No Alex, grandma’s feet are dirty.” 

My daughter then reminded me Jesus continuously wants to show us what love looks like. Alex loved his grandma so much that he kissed her feet. Jesus loves us so much that He washed our feet, died on the cross for us, and redeemed us. 

Not speaking, but using sign language, this little boy showed Jesus’ love. Without first investigating whether all the circumstances were suitable for a kiss, it was planted abruptly despite the dirty feet. 

Unconditionally. The little boy actually couldn’t stop himself, because his love for his barefoot Grandma was just too great. It’s love that drove him. 

Grandma almost did what many people do and turned away from the unconditional love offered to her. She nearly said, ‘No, sorry, I’m not good enough,’ or ‘I’ve already done this or that, you can’t love me.’ 

Unfortunately, many people do this with Jesus’ love. They simply can’t allow Him into their lives. They think they’re too dirty, too sinful. But that’s exactly what Jesus died for on the cross! 

However, this shouldn’t stop us from living Jesus’ love. It’s actually a command. Each of us who are children of Jesus must show the world what true love looks like. 

The Bible says this: 16This is how we’ve come to understand and experience love: Christ sacrificed his life for us. This is why we ought to live sacrificially for our fellow believers, and not just be out for ourselves. 

Let’s take this one seriously. Let’s go find places where we can love. Let’s go find places where we can kiss feet. Let’s find places where we can lay down our lives so that others can also realise that they are good enough for the love of Jesus.
