God's word in today's world

Christianity is a verb

Linguistically, Christianity is a noun, because it indicates the name of a specific group. I want to say it’s a verb, because being a Christian, a true Christian, presupposes work.

Maybe we just need to stop here first. People will start jumping up and down as soon as you start talking about works. They will say immediately that works do not get one to heaven. And that is true.

The gates of heaven are open to all who have accepted Jesus as their Saviour, not because of what they have done or not done, but only because Jesus died for all our sins.

That is grace alone.

However, when you realise what Jesus has done for you; when you realise that Jesus came to get us out of hell by dying in our place for our sins, you cannot remain untouched.

Christianity presumes a verb. Christianity mobilises you to act. Christianity that does not overflow into actions raises questions. Then you wonder how authentic that faith is.

Christians need to get uncomfortable when they’re stuck in the easy chairs of life. Children of God’s feet must itch, and their hands must be ready to do something and make a difference in other people’s lives.

Some words don’t go together for me. Because I’m not a natural athlete, to me fun run don’t go together. In the same way, unfruitful Christian do not fit either. A Christian must always bear fruit. It’s non-negotiable.

Therefore, devotedly, we must consciously do what is right and pass by the wrong things. We must study the Book of Life to obtain more wisdom.

When the winds of life blow hard at us, we must stay in control and stand strong. More and more we must bear God’s fruits and distribute them to our fellow believers and especially to all the other people in our world.

When allowing ourselves to grow in this more and more, and our Christianity becomes a verb, the impact will be seen in our own and other people’s lives. In this way, Jesus’ character becomes visible in a dark world, and we also get to know Him better.

Here is the promise for you from God’s Word: 8With these qualities active and growing in your lives, no grass will grow under your feet, no day will pass without its reward as you mature in your experience of our Master Jesus.

Maybe it’s time to find some quiet time and assess the effect of your Christianity on the world around you. Is it a waste of time or have you sown your fruit all over?

Scripture
2 Peter 1:3-15

Reflection
Where do you make a difference?
Where else can you make a difference?
Is your relationship with Jesus growing actively?

Prayer
Father, may my relationship with Jesus never be a waste of time. Help me never walk past an opportunity where I should put my faith into action. Amen.
