God's word in today's world

Deeds to make God proud

When parents go to a lot of trouble for their kids, and after a lot of hard work, those children grow into successful young people, their parents are so pleased. They are grateful, and so proud. These young people are living lives that is an example for others.

We should also live lives that make God trots proud. I suspect that is how God feels about Christo’s way of living here on earth:

Years ago, someone gave me a third of a small company for free, as long as I managed it for them. It was about 150 km from where I stayed and I could go home on weekends.

I arrived there for the first time one morning in early May. All the workers were waiting for me outside. One of them had no jacket, although it was fairly cold. Immediately I had this feeling that I had to give him my windbreaker.

Grateful doesn’t come close to describing his reaction.

We started the day with a prayer, as they normally did. From then on, I prayed for them every morning, until they told me one morning that they usually took turns and they wanted to pray as well. So that’s what we did.

Old Isaac never prayed. I suspected he knew, but didn’t believe.

Led by the Holy Spirit, I started reading a verse every morning, and saying a few words about it.

Little did I know what a great impact that small gesture would have on Isaac.

A month or so later he asked if I didn’t have an extra Bible at home. He and his wife wanted to read the verse again in the evenings and talk about it.

I was speechless. With tears in my eyes, I promised to bring him a Bible.

That Sunday I bought a Pedi Bible at church and gave it to Isaac on Monday. Sometimes, small things have big results.

I left there seven years ago, I’m retired now, but I believe Isaac and his wife still enjoy their relationship with God.

I suspect God is very proud of Christo. He did what he understood God expected of him. He was available and obedient and acted. His actions made a permanent difference in many people’s lives. God would definitely be proud of what Christo achieved with a heap of grace.

Christo understood this command and did exactly what was expected: 14… Otherwise you’ll never get so much as a glimpse of God. Make sure no one gets left out of God’s generosity.

Each of us should do this too. Our deeds mut make God proud. God must like the picture that we’re painting here on earth with our deeds. What can you go and do?

Scripture
Hebrews 12:14-17

Reflection
What does your life look like?
Does it have moments God can be proud of?
Where do you have to make a few changes?

Prayer
Father, sometimes I feel guilty about my deeds. I know I have to do more. I know I have to make a few changes in my life to really make You proud. I’m going to try again. I believe Your Spirit will help me do it. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
