Don’t throw your faith away
One of our pals since primary school days post on our WhatsApp group that the glands below his jaw are swollen and that he needs to see a doctor. They had to do tests. It didn’t look good.
The waiting for the results made him suffer. Waiting for something like this drives you up the wall. What will the results say? What will I do if it’s bad news? I don’t know if I’m ready to leave this life …
The news wasn’t good and after cutting out one of the glands for a biopsy, the doctor called: It was cancer …
Suddenly his world was turned on its head. Suddenly he was confronted by questions he didn’t even know existed, so what were the chances of having any answers! Suddenly everything was chaos and he didn’t know where to turn. Suddenly the three women in his life were in tears and he didn’t know what to do or say.
Somewhere in your life you stand at the crossroads. It’s a dark one and you don’t know where to go. What can I hold onto? Who will help me through this?
The rest of us tried to support him in our crooked way.
Then I read this verse: 35So don’t throw it all away now. You were sure of yourselves then. It’s still a sure thing!
I sent it to my pal and said this is all we can hold onto. God is the only sure thing. We can trust only in Him, because only with Him we are safe. Only with Him can we find the answers. Only He knows exactly what is waiting around the next corner. Our whole being and future are in His hands. And there are no better hands to be in!
We shouldn’t throw away our faith in God. Maybe it’s easy to say, but we should try our best to hang onto and protect our trust and faith in God.
A friend gave me a call. She had to take a salary cut. Things weren’t looking well for the organization. More cuts may be coming. She’s consumed by the uncertainty of whether she would still have a job in a few months’ time.
I remember the verse and send it to her too, and also wrote to her that we shouldn’t throw our faith away. People may say a lot. They try their best, but the answers and peace can only be found with God.
We have to remember this one – we might just need it around the next corner …

Reflection
What does your trust in God look like?
How has God provided for your needs in the past?
In which area of your life do you need to trust God right now?
Prayer
O God, my Father, whatever I have to face, I know you will never leave me. You love me and will give me exactly what I need and when I need it to fulfil Your will for my life. Even when I go through darkness, in Your hands I am safe. Amen.
