God's word in today's world

Entrusted to you

Let’s look at verse 4 again: 3-4 God tested us thoroughly to make sure we were qualified to be trusted with this Message. Be assured that when we speak to you we’re not after crowd approval—only God approval. Since we’ve been put through that battery of tests, you’re guaranteed that both we and the Message are free of error, mixed motives, or hidden agendas.

By now, you most probably understand that God has called you right where you are. This calling is not accidental. You cannot be indifferent towards this calling and you cannot just do it when you feel like it. No, this calling and command that God gave you is of crucial importance to the people around you.

Do you know that people may die without God if you do not fulfill the responsibility of your calling? God put a huge responsibility in your hands; He entrusted a lot to you.

What are you doing with it?

Many of us struggle to understand our calling and command and to make it part of our lives. We ask quickly: What has God entrusted to me? For what purpose did God call me? What does God want me to do for Him? What difference can I make in other people’s lives? Can I tell someone else about God?

We all ask these questions and that is why you can know that you’re actually going in the right direction. If you are serious about this command, God’s Spirit will guide you to do something with the responsibilities that have been entrusted to you.

Yes, I know most of us don’t do so well. Most of us aren’t even that sure about the responsibilities that God has entrusted to us. This doesn’t mean that we now have to wear the I-feel-like-a-worm sign. No, it is more like a wake-up call. A start to get us going with the stuff we’re good at, which are the gifts that God gave us.

Don’t be so afraid. Don’t make excuses like, “I don’t make a big song and dance about my Christianity” or, “I’m not going to grab another guy by the throat, demanding what his case is with God.” This is most probably not what God is expecting of you.

Just do the right thing. Use your gifts. Make a difference in other people’s lives. How? Be silent, listen and hear what God wants you to do. Before long thoughts will come into your head. Believe me, God’s Spirit will work in you.

But watch out: Don’t try to water down stuff just to get someone else’s approval. Yes, you might be afraid that people will push you away. Maybe you’re afraid that people will laugh at you. It might happen – there are no guarantees.

However, remember this one important aspect: People really need you. Some may laugh along with the others, but deep inside they know you are right. Actually, they want to come to you, but may be too afraid themselves. Please, just go and do wholeheartedly what God has entrusted to you.

1 Thessalonians 2:1-5

Reflection

What has God entrusted to you?

How can you use it to make a difference in the lives of other people?

When can you start doing it?

Prayer

Father, thank you for trusting me to talk to other people about the Gospel. I know I cannot do it in my own power, so thank you for your Holy Spirit helping me and adding value and power to anything that I do. Amen.
