One shouldn’t give the devil too much credit, but there’s one thing you’ll never be able to accuse him of – laziness. He’s certainly no couch potato.  

I suspect the guy isn’t too stupid either, because when I look around me at people who’ve made wrong choices and I see how much havoc their wrong choices have wreaked, I realise the guy is a master tempter.  

Let’s be honest now. Somewhere in our make-up, there’s a weak spot. Some of us simply can’t walk past the fridge or a tin of sweets. It’s as if it knows our name and as soon as we walk past it, we hear it calling.  

Others can’t stop looking. Just walking down the street, their eyes are like a car without brakes. And it’s not long before their thoughts and the stories in their head mess things up. And then there’s no stopping.  

It’s not easy to remain standing. The devil knows some will never look at blurred pictures, but maybe the money wolf or power wolf is their weak point. Maybe yours is the drink that goes down so nicely.  

Nothing about this is new. The devil has been on the prowl since the Garden of Eden, with the fall of mankind. And people have to be attentive not to fall for his temptations. Some just couldn’t stop the fall.  

At one stage it was so bad, and the world was so filled with sin, that God decided to start again. He destroyed everything and saved only Noah and his family on their boat.  

5Neither did he let the ancient ungodly world off. He wiped it out with a flood …  

God even eradicated whole cities that were rotten through and through: 6God decreed destruction for the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. A mound of ashes was all that was left—grim warning to anyone bent on an ungodly life.  

This is a bit of a wake-up call God comes to a point where enough is enough when He cleans up. Therefore, let’s look at our own lives and eradicate everything rotten. Pull the rotten bits out completely, strengthen your weak places and keep standing in God’s light.

 Prayer 
Father, yes, we are sinful and slip and slide often. This happens when we are deaf to the voice of Your Holy Spirit. Please sensitise us to respond in obedience to Your Word and voice. We ask this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
