God's word in today's world

Exceptional Jesus

When we read the Bible, we should always remember that the author wasn’t looking at us. He was writing for the people of his time. In a way, we’re spying on his work. But that doesn’t mean we can’t learn from it too.

Chapter one, and a big part of the next chapter, introduce Jesus to the readers. The readers might have known about the Jesus who walked on earth, but they knew very little about who He really was. That’s why the author gives different perspectives on Jesus, with one message: Jesus is God.

5Did God ever say to an angel, “You’re my Son; today I celebrate you” or “I’m his Father, he’s my Son”?

Angels are often called children of God. I see myself as a child of God and that I will live with the angels one day. But the angels are more like employees and God and Jesus like employers – while we are family.

There is a special connection between God and Jesus. Jesus is God’s only real Son or can we call it Son by blood? Yes, the only Son who could die, whose blood could flow as punishment for humankind’s sin. And we’re more like add-ons. Yes, we’re children of God, but more like stepchildren.

Jesus is wonderfully special in God’s eyes.

Jesus has more value than any other creature, because 6When he presents his honored Son to the world, he says, “All angels must worship him.”

Jesus has a special place in heaven, which God gave Him. God gave Jesus the position of eldest Son. All the others, Moses, David, Isaiah, Paul and even the disciples are subordinate to Jesus. There is no one like Jesus. No one but Jesus qualifies for the position of eldest Son of God.

Therefore, the others, the angels, the big men from the Bible, and us, must fall to our knees and honour Him. We must worship Jesus as we worship God. Everything we do, we must do to honour Him. Everything we do on earth must glorify Him.

It’s not difficult to do it, because when we understand what He did for us, we feel driven to glorify Him in everything we do and say and live.

Go today and live a life that glorifies Jesus.

Scripture
Hebrews 1:1-6

Reflection
How do you see Jesus?
How do you see yourself in Jesus?
Do you live it?

Prayer
Jesus, I want to glorify, love and serve You! When You were on earth, You showed us that You are truly the Son of God. Your disciples were prepared to die for this message. Please help me to use every breath I take to honour You. Amen.
