Years ago, there was a TV series, Extreme Makeover Home Edition. In this program a group of experts completely renovated an old house or in some cases completely demolished it and built a new one.

In that period the family was sent away for a vacation and pampering. On the last day they were brought back, but couldn’t see anything, because a bus was parked in the way.

The crowd would then start shouting: “Move the bus! Move the bus!” When the new house eventually came into sight, the owners would be overcome with joy. They jumped up and down and couldn’t believe their eyes.

As they walked through the house, they would be speechless. The old, dilapidated house transformed into a dream house. Everybody’s needs met. Certainly, a brand-new experience to return to their old house.

Jesus was also part of such a program, but His program is so much bigger. His program is not reserved for a few lucky individuals. No, Jesus’ Extreme Makeover program is for everyone who believes in Him and accept Him as their personal Saviour.

Jesus’ program started when He came to earth and became human. He walked along the dusty roads of Israel and introduced His Extreme Makeover program to people. He explained exactly how the old “house” would be replaced by a new one.

Many of those who heard could not process it. They couldn’t believe it and thought it was impossible. The church of the time went as far as calling Him a liar and called on the government to kill Him.

Fortunately, there was a group of people called to follow Him and they bought into the Extreme Makeover program. They committed to following Him and learned to understand His screenplay.

The climax of the program was not easy for any of His followers, but that is where the extreme makeover started: ²⁰May God, who puts all things together, makes all things whole, Who made a lasting mark through the sacrifice of Jesus, the sacrifice of blood that sealed the eternal covenant …

The old, difficult, legalistic, restrictive agreement has been replaced with an easy, free, grace-filled agreement. Through Jesus’ blood that was spilt on the cross people no longer have to struggle to get to heaven. Now you simply need to confess your sin, God then will forgive it and the gates of heaven stand open before us.

Is there a more awesome example of an extreme makeover?

The question now is whether you really buy into it and whether your life really testifies of the new agreement?

Prayer
Wow, Father. How can one do otherwise but be overcome by the new agreement? It is such a huge sign of Your love for us. Help me to live it everywhere I go. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
