Faith in the storm
Life in this world is often challenging. Jesus warned us that the world would reject us. Indeed, those who believe in Jesus Christ will face hostility.
The world already wanted to harm Jesus. For them, He was the opposition who wanted to break their power and strength. That is why they had to get Him out of the way and crucify Him.
When Jesus died on the cross, the devil’s bonfires must have burned high, only to be extinguished two days later. Death could not defeat Jesus.
The fires of hostility burned higher and higher.
It’s not much different today. There is still hostility between the world where satan reigns and us who are God’s children. 13So don’t be surprised, friends, when the world hates you.
Satan works hard to win people over. When you’re on his side, things seem calm and peaceful, but as soon as you stand up for your faith in Christ, you’ll likely face a storm.
So, why don’t I experience any opposition? Why is it not so unpleasant for me in the world? Why are most of the days in my life here on earth plain sailing?
Right away, I think it’s because I’ve probably become too worldly, so the devil doesn’t bother with me anymore. Maybe we’ve gotten so comfortable in the world that we’d rather fight on the wrong side.
Many individuals face frequent attacks. Some are persecuted for their faith. Others constantly struggle at work or home because they stand up for what they believe.
But the winds of opposition don’t blow everywhere. The wind blows strongly in some countries and people are attacked at every turn. Some even have to die for their faith.
However, most of us are not attacked in this way. We don’t know why some people have to suffer in the storms, while others are never attacked.
If you are not experiencing significant challenges, do not conclude that you are doing anything wrong. Remain watchful, as attacks can stem from external forces. Moreover, guard against becoming so aligned with the world that you no longer represent a threat to the opposing force.
Also, think constantly in prayer about those who are so hated by the world that they cannot live normally. Pray especially for those whose lives are in danger. Pray against the attacks of the evil one and that God will keep them safe.

Reflection
Are you strong in your faith?
Where are you under attack?
Do you pray for believers who are facing severe opposition?
Prayer
Father, thank you that I live in a country where I can freely practice my faith. Please be with those who suffer because they believe in You. Amen.
