God's word in today's world

Faith is …

For a car to work, it needs an engine. Without an engine a car cannot drive itself from point A to point B. Such a vehicle is useless. A car without an engine is actually just a heap of scrap and cannot really be called a car.

To be a Christian, you need faith. Faith is the most important characteristic you need to be a Christian, because without it you cannot be known as a Christian. Faith opens up a whole new world.

But what is faith? This is the best and simplest definition of faith: 1The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living.

Faith is to hold onto the fact that God will fulfil His promises with everything we have. Although we have not seen these things, we trust, no, even stronger, we know for sure that Jesus has died on the cross for our sins.

We are filled with excitement waiting for our lives on earth to come to an end, because God is waiting for us in heaven. Even though I cannot quite picture my bed in heaven, I know for sure it’s made up. Just for me.

Faith is the vehicle that carries me through the world’s suffering. It carries me through the crisis and makes me hold on, until the next season, when things may go better.

Indeed, because I have faith, I see differently, I live differently, and there’s a spring in my step. When I get stuck in life and want to cover myself in sackcloth and ashes, faith gives me a push to keep going.

I have to preserve my faith at all cost, because our faith is easily stolen from us. Our faith gets shot at from all sides. The world laughs out loud at us who believe in God and says we are mad.

Many have tried to prove scientifically that what we believe in does not exist. If we’re going to listen to anybody and everybody, they can make us doubt. And it is doubt that steals our faith from us bit by bit.

Let’s be honest with one another and admit that it’s not always easy to keep your faith intact. Especially when suffering traps us in a corner, when we beg for salvation, and we don’t get a response, we want to start wondering.

However, this is when we must take a firm stand and keep believing that God’s promises will come true. Maybe not now, but surely later. Even if we can’t see it now, we know the truth will come knocking at the door some time or another.

My faith in my God makes me sure that what I’m hoping for will come true, even if I can’t see it now and that’s the truth. I believe!

Scripture
Hebrews 11:1-6

Reflection
What does your faith look like?
How strong is your faith?
Do you have to get rid of doubt?

Prayer
Father, I say again: I believe in You. Even if I can’t see you, I believe You will make every promise come true in my life. I hold onto this with everything in me. Amen.
