Faith that is shaken
It’s getting harder and harder to believe. The smarter humans become, the more they get to know science, the deeper they dig into the mighty universe, the greater the challenge to believe like a child.
Jesus said we must believe like children again to inherit eternal life. When the knowledgeable people investigate God’s Word it often leads to more questions than answers.
Amid all this cleverness and unbelievers who shout ever louder, you question your faith. These people confuse you and make you doubt.
In a way, they want to steal your faith.
In these confusing times, we must pick up Bibles again and read what is written in them. Peter knew we’d sometimes wonder if we were on the right track and if our faith was strong enough.
Therefore, he suggested the following: 2Keep in mind what the holy prophets said, and the command of our Master and Savior that was passed on by your apostles.
Do you know how many predictions there are in the Old Testament of Jesus’ coming to earth? Isaiah 53 predicts Jesus’ coming to earth. It tells about Jesus who would be ostracized by the people and whom people would not even look at.
It paints the picture of Jesus who would have to go through a lot of suffering. It’s precisely our suffering that Jesus came to bear. Isaiah 53:5 “But it was our sins that did that to him, that ripped and tore and crushed him—our sins! He took the punishment, and that made us whole. Through his bruises we get healed.”
Hundreds of years before Jesus came to earth, people were already talking about Him and predicting what was going to happen. It wasn’t just stories blowing in the wind. It happened exactly like that.
Does your faith sometimes stumble? Do you sometimes wonder if the other people who believe is useless have a point? That is when we must make time, sit down on a rock and read what the prophets of the Old Testament said.
This is where our faith is strengthened. This is where our faith gets back on track and where we can stand against the evil that tries to lure us away from the truth of our Savior who died for all our sins.
If you still struggle to believe, read the letters of the apostles. They saw Jesus with their own eyes and walked with Him on earth. They bring us first-hand knowledge about Jesus’ life here on earth.
I suspect that questioning your faith every now and then is not that unusual. However, we have a responsibility to make sure that we aren’t pushed off the road and our faith stolen. Therefore, just read your Bible and allow your faith to be constantly strengthened, so that we can take along those who are struggling.
Scripture
2 Peter 3:1-7
Reflection
Do you sometimes struggle to believe?
Where and how do you strengthen your faith?
Who do you need to help with their shaky faith?
Prayer
Father, my faith also wavers sometimes, but I will never leave You. I will study Your Word daily to strengthen my faith. Amen.
