Joshua 10:13-14 The sun stopped in its tracks in mid sky; just sat there all day. There’s never been a day like that before or since—God took orders from a human voice! Truly, God fought for Israel.

One might think that the promised land was handed to the Israelites on a silver platter. But that is not what happened. They had to work hard. Just after the invasion of Jericho, war broke out against Ai, because Achan had disobeyed.

They initially lost the battle, but after they confessed their wrongdoing, God gave them victory again and they took city after city.

As a result, the Gibeonites were afraid and lied that they were from far away, while in fact they came from close by. Without involving the Lord in the affair, Joshua and the Israelites believed them and made a covenant with them. When the Israelites realised their mistake later on, they couldn’t do anything about it, because they had made the covenant in the name of the Lord.

Next, five kings from the Amorites agreed to attack the Gibeonites, but Joshua thwarted the attack by marching through the night. But the Israelites weren’t alone. God fought with them. More enemies were killed by the hailstones God sent than were killed by the sword.

However, Joshua still needed help and called in reinforcements. From God.

Joshua realised that if it got dark, they wouldn’t win the battle. So, he asked God to make the sun stand still. God did so, and the Israelites had enough time to secure the victory.

As a child of God, you are in a spiritual war. This battle is for your soul, and the enemy will try anything to make you lose your way, whether through temptation or simply through the people closest to you. That is a reality.

Fortunately, you can stay calm, because your reinforcements are already in place. God! Whether it requires a storm of hailstones or God commanding the sun to stand still just so you can overcome your enemy, you can rest assured: God will fight for you.

Father, it’s good to know that You will fight with me. Then I’m ready for anything …

Do I call on God when I am in a struggle, or do I try to deal with it alone?
Where have I perhaps made decisions without first asking God?
Do I truly believe that God can supernaturally intervene in my situation?

Think of a current “struggle” in your life and specifically mention it to God in prayer.
Today, intentionally ask for God’s help in that situation, even if it feels big or impossible to you.
Make it practical by asking God first before you make a major decision today, even if it’s something small.
