God's word in today's world

God makes plans

Exodus 2:10 After the child was weaned, she presented him to Pharaoh’s daughter who adopted him as her son. She named him Moses (Pulled-Out), saying, “I pulled him out of the water.”

After Joseph’s death and the rise of a new leader in Egypt, the honeymoon was over for the Israelites. The new ruler was afraid that the growing number of Israelites would join hands with his enemies and revolt against him.

He then made a cruel plan to stop the population growth: all baby boys were to be thrown into the Nile. How cruel is that? Did the Pharaoh ever suspect he was a mere pawn in God’s hand—an unwitting architect of the very plan that would lead the Israelites to freedom?

How wonderful it is to see God’s hand intertwined in everything. Moses’ mother thought of a plan so that he didn’t drown in the river. She put him in a basket in the river, and ironically, he was saved from this murderous river. And the cherry on the cake? His own mother got the opportunity to raise him herself.

However, this is not just a pretty story. People often take wrong turns and act outside of God’s will. Moses saw a slave driver beating a slave to death. He was so angry that he killed the man and had to flee for his life.

Years later, while tending sheep in the desert, he found a bush that kept on burning. He placed his hands over his eyes, for he realized that he stood before God. He took off his shoes and lay down low before God, because he knew something was coming.

How wonderful it is to see that God leaves nothing to chance in the fulfillment of His plan for humanity. A Pharaoh who tries everything in his power to oppress the people was used to raise the future leader of the people.

Even when people make wrong choices, God uses it to get them to the place where He wants to meet them.

Even through cruel decisions, wrong choices, and difficult circumstances, God is quietly working behind the scenes to carry out His plan and lead His people to the place where He wants to use them. God is at work in the lives of His children. In your life too. God is busy helping you to come to His plan for your life. Do you believe it? Are you following it?

Prayer
Father, it’s not always easy to say it, but here I am. Use me. Shape me. Lead me …

Questions
Can I believe that God is at work even in difficult circumstances?
Where in my life has God made a plan where I only saw chaos?
Am I willing to follow God’s guidance, even when I don’t understand everything?

Do this now
Think back to a difficult or confusing time in your life and write down where you can now see God’s hand in it.
Tell God in prayer where you currently feel things are out of control and give it back into His hands.
Trust Him today with one decision you need to make and ask Him to show you your next step.
