God's word in today's world

God remembers

Genesis 8:1 Then God turned his attention to Noah and all the wild animals and farm animals with him on the ship. God caused the wind to blow and the floodwaters began to go down.

I wonder if you’ve ever had to wait a long time for something to materialise in your life? I can tell you stories of waiting and wondering and sometimes just screaming at the heavens when things didn’t work out the way I wanted them to.

I studied theology for eight years, and what did I do after all those years of hard work? I worked on two wine farms and dabbled in the corporate world for twenty years. It was fun, but I knew I would eventually have to realise my calling somewhere.

Noah didn’t wait years, but months. In those days of darkness and storms and a load of animals that must not have been easy to keep alive, Noah struggled. Had God forgotten about them? He had done his part, but now it was taking longer than he had thought the plan would.

God doesn’t forget. God didn’t stop thinking about Noah. God remembered. In biblical terms, this means that God remained faithful to the promise He made to Noah. He promised that the water would recede, that the ark would run aground, and that everyone would set their feet safely on land again.

When God helps and saves His people in need, the Bible describes it as God remembering.

Remember: God’s silence does not mean that He is absent or uninvolved. God acts when the time is right; often, even when we are simply ready. He upholds and fulfils His promises in our lives. God always shows up, and He is never late.

I know it’s not easy to stand firm when serious problems come knocking at your door. We’re people with emotions, and when we’re hurt, hope and trust easily walk out the door.

That’s why we must deliberately return to the Word to read again about a God who invariably appears at the right place at the perfect moment and executes His promises. He will do the same for you, because His love for you is too great to leave you alone.

Prayer
Father, thank you for the promise that You will show up at the perfect time and place. I need it to be the perfect time and place now…

Questions
Where was the last time you witnessed God’s “remembering”?
What do you do while you wait? How do you keep hope
alive when silence persists?

Now do this
Remember a time when God did not forget you. Write it down as a reminder that He still keeps His promises.
Reread God’s promises. Select a specific verse that affirms God’s faithfulness, especially during times of waiting, and keep it close to you.Do something insignificant that brings hope. Encourage someone who is waiting. Be a reminder to them that God never forgets.
