God wanted you here
Genesis 1:26-27 God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature, so they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, and, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth.” God created human beings; he created them godlike, reflecting God’s nature. He created them male and female.
Creation tells us much more than that light came and chased away the darkness. Creation tells us more than that an ocean filled with water rolled away from the mountains and the land. Creation tells us more than that land was laid dry and that trees began to put out their flower heads among the fields. Creation tells us more than that the sun rose in the morning and started setting late afternoon, and that the moon and stars were close on its heels. Creation tells us more than that the fish ended up in the ocean and that the birds flew around in the sky. Creation tells us more than that the animals came living in the fields.
Creation tells us more. It tells us about a great God who could not allow Himself to keep everything just for Himself. It tells us about an Almighty God who could and did create everything. With His own hands, He designed the huge elephant, the smallest worm, and the butterfly with bright purple dots on its wings.
Creation gives us a glimpse into the greatness of God. It tells the story of a creative God.
But more than that, creation tells us of God’s heart that overflows so much that He could not stop Himself from making people who are just like Him. He made an image of Himself to be in charge of this wonderful, special creation made by His hand.
If you’ve ever wondered why you’re on earth, and why you’re reading this now, you need to go and look at God’s creation – look in the mirror. If you’ve ever wondered what God looks like, go and look at that picture.
Do you really grasp your own value? Do you know how special you are? Do you know how great your calling is? Well, God valued you so highly that He created you in His image.
He longs for a relationship with His creation. Therefore, go to Him, again and again, and be in His presence regularly.
Prayer
Father, I thank You for valuing me so highly as to create me in Your own image. Thank you for my worth, not because of what I do, but because of Who created me. Here I am, Lord. Use me to show Your image in this world …
