God's word in today's world

God whispers so that you can help others

God talks to his children through his Word. It’s his microphone. It’s a pity the volume is set so low. But that is God’s nature. He doesn’t shout. He talks softly, like grandpa.

I still remember the time my grandpa stayed with us. He was confined to his bed and my mom had to do everything for him. He was wrinkled. I was still very small at the time. We weren’t allowed to play there or make a noise. Grandpa was on his way out.

But grandpa loved talking to people and as soon as he noticed you, you had to go closer to hear what he had to say. He had many stories to tell, but his voice was no longer working so well. It was more of a whisper. To hear what He had to say, you had to put your ear very close to his mouth. The whispering tickled my ear.

God speaks softly too. He still speaks today. And He wants to talk to you, even though it is soft. He wants to talk to you through his Word every day. I know, because He has talked to me many, many times. And every time I am so excited by it that I can’t wait to share it with others.

But there were many days, so many days, that life just happened or it was warmer to stay in bed and I missed his whisper. Yes, I missed out and the many wrong choices are clear proof of that.

God wants to lead us softly through his whisper in his Word. He wants to show us where to walk and where we have to be careful and pass by. And I know myself, if I miss that whisper in the morning, I did not carefully pass by, but rather rushed in with catastrophic results.

Does that sound familiar?

But even more, God wants to use his whisper in us to help others. He wants to give us the wisdom to not only help ourselves on the road, but also to help others who are struggling even worse to hear his whisper.

There are many people who are struggling out there, wandering around without hope. He wants to give them hope through us. He wants to comfort those who are crying. We simply need to be there. 9Their belief in the truth that they have been taught must be strong and steadfast so that they will be able to teach it to others and show those who disagree with them where they are wrong [TLB].

That is an instruction. We who are children of God and who walk in his Word must do it. We are the lifebuoy those who are struggling can hold onto.

But it goes further. People can no longer distinguish the line between right and wrong. Everything seems to be right nowadays. Do what you want to, shouts the world. That’s why it looks the way it does.

We’ve been instructed to go and show and live that line so that people can see where they can and cannot walk. Because the instruction goes further: 9… so that they will be able to teach it to others and show those who disagree with them where they are wrong.

Let’s decide on a specific time in the day. Let’s find a specific place to sit quietly. We will hear God’s whisper.

Scripture
Titus 1:5-9

Reflection
Do you listen enough to God’s whisper?
Does it help?
Do you help others?

Prayer
Father, I am often amazed that the God of the universe is interested in me and wants to talk to me. Please help me to be still, long enough, to hear Your voice. Please help me not to keep this to myself, but to share Your hope with others. I ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
