God witnesses
We don’t always trust everyone’s stories. These days, you should always fact-check any news you receive.
There’s a story that goes like this: Long, long ago, there was a great kingdom ruled by a righteous king. He was loved by all his people. The king had a very special message for his people about the crown prince.
Therefore, he sent a messenger to all the towns and cities to tell them: “The king has now reached retirement, and he has decided to make his son the heir to the throne. He is just as righteous a man as the king and will rule the country just as well as the king.”
Some people believed him, but, as usual, some were sceptical about the announcement. They did not know the messenger at all. How could they trust him to tell the truth?
When the king heard about this, he decided to go to the people himself. He had his carriage harnessed and rode through town after town, telling the leaders himself of his plans.
The people could no longer doubt it. They knew that the king spoke only the truth. His words were stronger than anything they had heard, because he was the highest authority in the land. But even more, he was there in person.
Many people are unsure about Jesus’ coming to earth. They doubt His status. Some think He was just an ordinary man, a kind of human prophet.
But Jesus is more than that. Jesus is the Son of God. And if you don’t want to believe people, then listen to what God says. God testifies by His Spirit, by the baptism, by the events of the cross, that Jesus is truly our Saviour.
When God testifies, it certainly carries more weight. People can be deceived or subconsciously believe something and tell others something that is not true, but God never can. People can have selfish or ignoble motives to deliberately deceive, but God never can.
People’s perceptions are often limited, based on rumours or information that is not reliable. But God’s knowledge is always complete. People sometimes try to grab attention with amazing, made-up stories, but God doesn’t need any of that. People have deceived, but God never has.
While it’s wise to approach some testimonies with a bit of scepticism, you can always be certain that what God says is true.
9If we take human testimony at face value, how much more should we be reassured when God gives testimony as he does here, testifying concerning his Son.
There are many uncertainties in the world. But one thing that is crystal clear is that Jesus truly is the Saviour. Why? Because God himself testifies to it.
