God’s high
My friend who’d been hospitalised with Covid told us it’s going better. He said:
“I had a better night, old pal. Now I’m on positive “God’s high”. Thank you for your support. You start thinking dark thoughts when you have something that might have a bad outcome. I myself have made peace with whatever happens (I found that peace after I found out about my cancer). My deepest sorrow will be my families and my friends. They are my everything. Regards to all, love you so much.”
When death passes close to you, you stop and reflect deeply. When fear comes over you as you lie there alone, you don’t have that many options. Then it’s just you and God.
6… we can boldly quote, God is there, ready to help; I’m fearless no matter what. Who or what can get to me?
The King James Version puts it so well: 6So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper …
Look at the verse printed in bold. It stands out clearly. Actually, it calls out loudly for your eyes to read it. And that is why we can and should call out in all circumstances, should shout out:
“God is my helper! Yes, I may not have the answers now. I don’t know what tomorrow will bring. Some disease got hold of me, but you know what? God is my helper! I believe it! I know it! I live it!”
To know that God will help us calms us down and brings hope. Instead of covering ourselves in sackcloth and ashes, and hopelessly, aimlessly wander around in circles, we find courage. We find the strength to try again, because we’re not doing it alone.
What should we be afraid of then? God is greater than anybody who wants to hurt us. People cannot do to us more than what God allows and then He will anyway help us get through the challenge.
God is greater than any disease. Jesus even conquered death, so how can we be afraid of death if the One who is our Helper has passed through death already?
When, like my friend, you’ve experienced God’s hand, when you’ve looked death in the eye, and you know it is God who has helped you, then you’re on God’s high.
When you’ve conquered the challenge you’ve faced and you look back and see how God has made things work out, you cannot help but be on God’s high.
Believe it! Go and live it! And show others how!

Reflection
What challenges are you facing?
Do you believe that God will help you?
How will you live it?
Prayer
Father, it gives me so much peace of mind to know that You’re my helper. I need it so much, because I cannot make it on my own. My challenges are just too big. Amen.
