I often find myself in a dead-end street. So many times, I get home all bloody. Many, many times, the people around me end up hurt because of what I’ve said and done, because I didn’t concentrate on hearing God’s whisper.

Has this ever happened to you too?

Some people have the gift of hearing God speak in an audible voice. They’re tuned into a different frequency.

Almost like dogs. Dogs can hear so much better than people, because they can hear sound at a much higher frequency. Dogs can rotate their ears towards the incoming sound, almost like a grandpa who’s hard of hearing and has to cup his behind his ear to hear better.

But I didn’t receive this gift. That’s why I don’t always know what to say, what to do, and how to walk through life the way that God wants me to.

I said to our Father that I would preach a sermon on our YouTube channel once a week if He gave me the sermon. Quite a nice gesture, I thought. But it’s not that easy to “hear” the sermon that I’m supposed to preach every week.

It’s rather stressful and one doesn’t always know whether you are “hearing” it right. And that’s why I write the words “Not my words, but Your Word” at the top of each sermon.

Then I hope and pray that God will intervene and silence me if my sermon goes off the rails.

And that’s why these words are so true: ¹⁹Post this at all the intersections, dear friends: Lead with your ears …

Yes, this applies to every person we meet, but even more so to God. We must be willing to listen to God’s advice. He wants to help us. He wants to stop us from bumping into ourselves. He wants to lead us to do the right thing wherever we go.

We must make time to hear His advice for our lives. The best place to find this is in His Word. The Bible is God’s words, His directions, His life plan, His mercy, His protection, His guidance, His care for our daily lives.

God still talks to His children through His Word today. But how can we hear God’s words if we don’t permit His words to enter through our ears and eyes?

There is a simple solution for those of us who can’t hear God speaking to us. Open His Word and listen to His voice. Then we’ll hear what His will is for our daily life. Then we’ll cup our hands behind our ears and know exactly how to keep on going.

Prayer
Father, this is not nuclear physics. I know what to do. The more time I spend with Your Word, the More I’ll hear Your voice to help me through the day. Help me to make time. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
