God's word in today's world

How God cares for us

A mother’s testimony about her daughter:

My daughter is a very deep child. For as long as I can remember, she always worried about me. She prayed for everyone from childhood. Wherever she goes, she makes a difference.

After my divorce, she and I became closer. I could learn a lot from her. She doesn’t have an earthly daddy who cares for her, but she has a Heavenly Father whom she loves very much.

She devoted her whole life to Him.

I learned a lot from her every day and found much peace in my life. This is how I moved closer to our Heavenly Father.

Without the daughter realising it, she lives one of the qualities of wisdom quite naturally. She is merciful. She is full of compassion. She knows her mother is struggling. She notices it, but more than that, she does something about it.

Wisdom is when we allow others’ burdens to touch us. We allow our hearts to be touched and moved when people are hurting. It is unwise to put blinkers on that make others’ suffering disappear from our sight.

When, like the daughter, we make a difference in others’ needs, we become like the Father who cares. Yes, then we become like God. God came to show us what it is to be merciful and to care.

God saw we were floundering in the mud, and our outcome did not look very rosy. We were on our way to death. However, God not only saw, but also did something about man’s hopelessness.

Driven by love, He puts a solution on the table. Jesus had to die on the cross on Calvary. What a huge sacrifice that was! A great solution for all mankind!

This example of caring, which touches us closely, and changes our future, should also drive us to do good. But we need to do more than just remove the blinkers. We have to look around and look for places to make a difference and lessen the need.

And then we must do it, like the daughter. We must not be afraid to sacrifice. We must roll up our sleeves and work until we sweat, so that people also experience God’s care in practice.

This is exactly why we do it. God receives the honour. In a way, we are like a mirror that reflects God through our acts of caring, giving Him glory and thanks, because it is only because of Him that real difference affects people.

What we do to God’s children, God experiences as if it was also done to Him. Compassionate living is terribly wise.

17Real wisdom, God’s wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings …

Scripture
James 3:17-18

Reflection
Do you see the need of others?
Are you doing anything about it?
Does God get all the glory?

Prayer
Father, sometimes I turn my head away from other people’s hardships. Sometimes I just can’t take it. Help me not to shy away from my responsibility, but to really make a difference. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
