It is possible with God
Numbers 14:6-7 Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, members of the scouting party, ripped their clothes and addressed the assembled People of Israel: “The land we walked through and scouted out is a very good land—very good indeed.”
It was about 15 months since the Israelites had been delivered from slavery. During this time, they came to know God as a God who provided and cared. When there was no water, He provided streams of water. When there was no food, He arranged something for the braai and even porridge for breakfast.
They’ve come to know a God who came to live with them and protected them from danger. He even gave them guidelines on how they should live.
And now they were standing at the entrance to the Promised Land. As befitted a good nation, they first sent 12 men, one from each tribe, to see what the land looked like. Joshua and Caleb saw the beauty. It truly was a land of milk and honey.
The other 10 men only saw the giants and could see no chance of taking the land. They stirred up the people so much that they started looking for a leader who could take them back to Egypt. The upshot of this was that they had to wander in the desert for 40 years before they finally reached the milk and honey.
What is the difference between Joshua and Caleb and the rest? Didn’t Joshua and Caleb see the danger like the other men? No, they saw it too, but it wasn’t the only thing they saw.
They said to the Israelites that if God favoured them, He would surely help them to take on and conquer these giants. And He did! Fortunately, we know that 40 years later God not only helped them conquer the giants, but also simply made town walls crumble to give them the land.
As we walk closely with God, we get to know Him. Then we know when and where He will give us a way out. Even when others think the enemy is too big, or the plans and dreams we have will never come true here on earth, we will believe and know: our God is big and strong enough to make everything in His will come true.
Prayer
Father, I believe like Joshua and Caleb. I believe in You and that with You, everything is possible. I also believe that with You I can conquer my enemies …
Questions
Do I only see the “giants” in my life, or do I also see God’s promises?
Where has fear held me back from moving forward with God?
Do I truly believe that even the impossible is possible with God?
Do this now
Today, write down one “giant” that feels too big for you and consciously bring it before God in prayer.
Remind yourself of a time when God gave you a way out and say it out loud to strengthen your faith.
Take one small, practical step today towards your “impossible” and do it intentionally with God.
