God's word in today's world

Jesus God, Creator

It is impossible for us to see God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit as one being. For me, they are three persons. God is the Father who created the world. He is the main man.

Jesus, his Son, is the one who came to earth to die on the cross. By doing that, He paid the penalty for all of humankind’s sin.

After Jesus ascended to heaven, the Holy Spirit came to be our Helper. Without Him we’re always pulling in the wrong direction.

That sums up how I experience the Trinity. But this picture is not the complete picture, because it’s as if Jesus only appeared on the scene when He came to earth. The same with the Holy Spirit.

God Himself corrects my poor description: 10And again to the Son, You, Master, started it all, laid earth’s foundations, then crafted the stars in the sky.

Jesus existed with God when the world was still wild and remote. Before creation Jesus already existed. Then Jesus created the world. Therefore, Jesus is not part of the world; He is much bigger than his creation.

One could say that Jesus single-handedly pushed the wheelbarrow with the cement and poured the foundation of the world. He single-handedly piece by piece formed the far-flung heavens that we discover more of every day. Wow, how mighty He is.

In a way, the picture of Jesus becomes clearer and bigger. Jesus is God. Jesus is Creator. Jesus is Maintainer. Jesus is Manager. Jesus is Carer. Yes, Jesus is at the helm of the world and the heavens. He knows everything that goes on there. He knows every person by name and calls each of them by name. He even knows the number of hairs on their heads.

As the picture of the great God Jesus becomes clearer, Jesus becoming human becomes more significant. God Jesus had to get down from his throne and come to earth. Jesus, Creator, King, God, had to get into human form to carry out his act of love here on earth.

Nothing and nobody else could carry out this act of salvation. Not a group of good people (nowhere to be found then or now), not even a group of kings or prophets was qualified for this post. Not even all the angels together in a choir were good enough.

Only God Jesus was qualified. Only the Creator of the earth and the heavens was the only right being who could take all of humankind’s sin on his shoulders. Wow! How great is Jesus. To You, o Lord God, all the glory. In all of eternity.

Scripture
Hebrews 1:10-12

Reflection
What does your picture of the Trinity look like?
How great is your Jesus?
How does this move you?

Prayer
Jesus, God! How great You are. There is none like You. Thank You for creating. Thank You for creating me. Thank You for being great enough to become human and die on the cross for us. Amen.
