Jesus is coming again
When are we doing well? When things go well? When no crisis arrives at the front door and all our loved ones are fine? When there’s nothing weird going on?
But when something happens in our lives that we can’t control, or when something happens that we can’t solve, then we become insecure, and our joy is stolen.
That’s how people are. We don’t like the unfamiliar. It makes us uneasy.
The unfamiliar or uncontrollable can trigger avoidance behaviours, leading us to shy away from challenges.
I suspect many of us feel this way about the second coming. We’ve made ourselves quite at home on earth and talks about God finally coming on a certain date makes us restless.
Yet we must know that the world as we know it will end at some point. Just as God created the earth by speaking just a few words, so God will also speak just a few words: 7The current galaxies and earth are fuel for the final fire. God is poised, ready to speak his word again, ready to give the signal for the judgment and destruction of the desecrating sceptics.
To people who do not believe this day may hold little meaning or importance. They believe that if they fall asleep on their bed tonight, they will wake up right there again tomorrow morning. And if you have a different view, they start mocking you.
The mockery will only intensify, demanding a stronger stance from us. We will have to endure the mockery and while our cage is being shaken, we must continue believing that one day Jesus will come to get us.
Yes, Jesus is coming again one day. When that is, we don’t know. Some thought that Jesus would come within a few years after His ascension. The unbelievers scoff. But they don’t add up correctly.
People want to use their man-made calculators to calculate when Jesus will come again. However, God’s sums look quite different.
8Don’t overlook the obvious here, friends. With God, one day is as good as a thousand years, a thousand years as a day.
Yes, God’s sums work differently. He is not at all late for His appointment to come back to earth and collect His children. Therefore, we can continue to live and work peacefully.
We don’t have to fear the unexpected, because it will be a wonderful day for each of God’s children. We will be with Jesus in heaven and the peace and joy of the universe will descend upon us. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for those who make fun of it.

How do you feel about the second coming?
How do the mockers make you feel?
How can you be calm about Jesus coming again at some point?

Jesus, sometimes I’m scared to be taken out of my comfort zone here. Please help me to be excited about Your return. Help me to be ready and to look forward to it eagerly. Amen.
