Jesus is still helping
The angels weren’t influenced by Adam and Eve’s wrong choices. The angels do exactly what God wants them to do. They only do what is right and is actually unable to do what is wrong. The devil has no hold on them.
Therefore, it wasn’t and isn’t necessary for Jesus to come and save them from trouble. They are not in trouble. But for people it’s a completely different story. We were so deep in trouble; we were all hopeless cases.
16 It’s obvious, of course, that he didn’t go to all this trouble for angels. It was for people like us, children of Abraham.
Also, Jesus didn’t come to earth as an angel, because how would He then have been able to really identify with humans if He couldn’t really experience what they go through? No, He had to become human to come to humans.
Why? To come and help people, because He and God were worried about us. Worried that we wouldn’t be able to do life. Worried that we would throw in the towel somewhere along the way and lose our way.
Indeed, this assumes that there will be times that we’ll need help to survive. There will be times that we will struggle. Times that we won’t know what to do or where to go.
Times when people have no answer. When we will need Jesus’ help so much. Like in the time of the COVID-19 virus. Suddenly we realise how vulnerable and fragile we are.
Suddenly your bank balance doesn’t mean anything. Even less what ethnic group you belong to. In the beginning, younger people thought they would escape the onslaught, until even they started contributing to the shortage of caskets.
The whole world hid in their homes and started calling out to God again, because they realised they won’t get through this on their own. We call for help from the realisation of our own fragility.
Thank goodness Jesus came to help humankind. Thank goodness He left the Holy Spirit here to lead us every moment of the day and to show us the way.
When we’re confronted with difficulties like this and we can’t get around it, we must fall back on the knowledge that the purpose of Jesus coming to earth was to come and help people. Yes, his main purpose was to die on the cross so that those who believe in Him can have Eternal Life.
But there is more. Jesus left his Spirit with us to support us and to help us through life, all the way, all the time. Believe it. Know it. Live it, and know that the new season is just around the corner.

Reflection
Do you believe that Jesus still helps us today?
How has He helped you recently?
Where can He help you more?
Prayer
Jesus, it is so good to hear that You still help us today. I need your help every day. I need You to help me make the right choices. I need You to help me so that I can also help other people. Amen.
