I am amazed by the growth of the crossroads.com ministry. It’s more than a few ten thousand – all glory to God. I can still remember that day right at the start when I experienced that the Lord had led me to pull the stuff I was writing into shape and send it to a few people in my contact list.
I did it anonymously, because I didn’t want people to continue receiving it because they didn’t want to insult me. A heap of them immediately unsubscribed. What one woman said about me the sea couldn’t wash off.
The numbers didn’t really increase. But one day I had a thought (no, the Spirit put it in my mind) that I should add the following at the bottom of the e-mail going out: If you know of someone who needs this e-mail, send it to him or her. And that’s how Crossroads started flying far and wild on the waves of the internet and thousands of people started signing on to receive God’s Word in modern language.
All the glory belongs to God.
But God did not come down to earth to formulate the marketing plans and appoint reps and had advertising downloaded on people’s screens. Actually, that’s not God’s style at all.
No, God used people. Ordinary people. People who were not necessarily trained to do marketing. People who had not necessarily studied theology. God simply used ordinary people to make his ministry skyrocket.
God did not expect the people to first go on a course to know what exactly they had to do. A very simple instruction, actually: Tell others about this. In today’s terminology: Share your e-mail or WhatsApp or Facebook post. Simply click on the share button, select the people you want to send it to, and click send. That’s all! God does the rest.
2For you must teach others those things you and many others have heard me speak about. Teach these great truths to trustworthy men who will, in turn, pass them on to others. (TLB)
I’m amazed by what happens when God and his Spirit are behind something. It’s wonderful to see when people grasp their calling and start doing. Like the Englishman says, the results are “mind blowing.” The results blow you away and you are left amazed by what has happened.
We all have the calling to tell God’s Message. Today it’s so easy to click that single share button. One day when you are again moved by God’s Words, and wonder whether you should send it to this or that one, but holds back because what if … Be faithful and obedient. Listen to the Holy Spirit’s voice and click the share button.
You might just save a life. Like this short e-mail says:
I was on my way to take my own life. And the crossroads e-mail popped up in my inbox. I’ve put my thoughts of suicide away for now.
Thank you to the one who was faithful and clicked on the share button in the previous round.
Soli Deo Gloria.
