Just one good deed per day
Alida (not her real name) made me a little embarrassed by her way of living love and caring. She says:
We have to make the will of God part of our lives in a practical way. If your neighbour, and yes, even your enemy, are hungry, give them bread. Or if they are thirsty, give them water.
I make this an everyday thing. One good deed per day. For a person or an animal.
Often, I think I haven’t done it today, but when I talk to God in the evening, He shows me that I’ve done something. Sometimes I’m so fortunate to have done good more than once.
It’s become part of my daily existence. Time is short. Our Creator will come and fetch us and we have to know as many people as possible that God can help them. They just have to ask. It will happen.
To give back must be part of our live. That’s what God instructed us to do. I wish I had enough earthly possessions to help more people. At the moment I’m developing my vegetable garden so that I can maybe start a soup kitchen.
This past summer and winter I fed myself, my best friend and my old man who’s half blind and still wants to work in the garden, from my vegetable garden.
Yes, I have to make it bigger now. Many people go to bed hungry. My dream is to have a soup kitchen one day where we can feed many, many people.
We are often so busy with our own stuff. We focus only on ourselves and do not see the need of others. Even less we hear the instruction from God to really make a difference.
22Now that you’ve cleaned up your lives by following the truth, love one another as if your lives depended on it. Your new life is not like your old life. Your old birth came from mortal sperm; your new birth comes from God’s living Word.
Living love starts with the people close to us. We must love our brothers and sisters, our spouses and parents, our children, friends and family from our hearts. No matter what they did to us or what they didn’t do.
It is not that easy, because we are harmed many times – then it burdens our hearts. Others get more. Others simply take more and then it’s not so easy to love someone unconditionally.
You see, if we are children of God, we’re commanded to love everyone. It’s not optional for us. Then we have to look out for people in need. Then we must be sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit, and then we must start to do something about it.
Maybe we should do what Alida does and resolve to do one good deed every day. This is how we sow love. Perhaps you should also allow the Holy Spirit to awaken a project in your heart. Maybe you should also grow your garden of good deeds a little.
Living Jesus’ love is not optional for us who are children of God. God made us to sow love. Come, let’s do it with passion.

Reflection
How much love do you live?
Is it enough?
Where can you live more love?
Prayer
Father, I know I am part responsible for making Your love a reality in the world. Help me to see the places where You want me to do this. Amen.
