Laughter grows from tears
Genesis 21:6 Sarah said, God has blessed me with laughter and all who get the news will laugh with me!
Sarah was 75 when Abraham received the promise of a son. It eventually only happened 25 years later. It wasn’t an easy wait. There were many questions, many uncertainties, and many tears.
Nick Vujicic, born in Australia, was born without arms or legs. His parents were Christians, but the day he was born, his mother turned away in shock. She couldn’t understand how God could allow this.
As a child, Nick struggled with depression and loneliness for years. At the age of ten, he even tried to end his own life, because he felt his life had no purpose.
But God was at work. Nick discovered that his value did not lie in what he did not have, but in Who had made him. In his teens, he began speaking at schools and churches, and his story has touched people around the world. Today, he preaches in more than 70 countries, bringing hope to millions, and laughing more than ever.
He often says, “I thought I would never laugh again, but God taught me that He can make laughter grow from tears.”
Nick’s life sounds a lot like Sarah’s. After years of waiting, tears, and questions, a laugh that only God could bring finally grows. Their stories show that God still surprises people. He turns sadness into joy and makes those who hear your story laugh with you.
Life is not easy. Things happen. Sometimes you get knocked out, or even worse things happen that leave you traumatised. Then the tears simply stream down your cheeks.
In times like these, we need Sarah and Nick’s stories. They remind us that if God could wipe away their tears and bring back their laughter, He can do the exact same for us. We must choose faith daily, allowing this hope to shape every moment and every decision.
Prayer
Father, sometimes my heart grows overcast, and tears flow easily. I long so much to see the light again and to laugh until my stomach hurts ….
