God's word in today's world

Let us never stay silent

My biker friend from Jo’burg told me of a time when he slipped up.

I’m sad tonight.

I went to our local post office today and for the third time asked where the girl was who always saw me come in and said hello.

She was also in the motorcycle industry and had issues with the dealer where she used to work. She took a break and landed behind the post office counter. She had worked there for about three years.

Because of the motorcycle industry, we always chatted a bit more than just the routine of dispatching my package of bike parts.

The last time I saw her, she was standing outside smoking.

We had another quick “Hello and how are you?” conversation.

Today, when I asked again where she was, the new woman called me aside. She told me that the girl was in rehab for a full twelve months. She had been struggling with prescription drugs for five years. About two months ago, she swallowed 10 pills of four different types of drugs (40 pills) at the same time to put an end to everything. She nearly died.

I must’ve talked to her about five times, sometimes while she was smoking outside.

I never once thought to share the message of grace with her. Our conversations were always only about motorbikes and the difficulties of the industry.

As I was washing the dishes tonight, I felt sad for her. I should’ve spoken to her… More than once I had noticed the air of unhappiness around her.

But I didn’t speak up.

Today, when her boss told me her story, I shared my testimony with the woman. I understood that girl’s position. I was able to share with her that Jesus had freed me from addiction. Yes, my quota was at least 1 to 2 bottles of whiskey a day and later also prescription drugs.

Instead of just thinking about the goodness of the Lord, I must share it with everyone who crosses my path. Jesus can and wants to save everyone. His goodness is not for us to receive, put away and keep for ourselves.

MAY THE LORD HELP ME!

15Be ready to speak up and tell anyone who asks why you’re living the way you are …

May we take every opportunity to tell others about the hope that lies within us. We should never keep it to ourselves. I pray that our words and lives will save people!

Scripture
1 Peter 3:13-18

Reflection
Are you ready to share God’s message of hope?
Where and how will you do it?
Whose name rises up in your heart?

Prayer
Father, I know I must share Your message of salvation. I also know with whom. But I’m scared. Let Your Holy Spirit take the lead. I’ll follow. I ask this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
