Live Jesus
If I were to ask you to write down three characteristics of Jesus that stand out to you, what would they be? Each of us will likely have a different list, as it depends on our current life stage, past experiences, and present circumstances.
When I think of Jesus, I immediately see His passion for other people. Jesus could not stop Himself from caring for the sick. He was not afraid to pull a miracle out of his hat to heal others.
He had His eye on the lost person all the time and did not hesitate to tell people about the salvation He brings. Jesus would do anything for His fellow man, even hang on the cross.
Jesus came to teach us how to cultivate an intimate relationship with God. He spoke to His Father often, knowing that He couldn’t fulfill His earthly mission alone.
In this special relationship, Jesus knew God and was able to paint a picture of God for His fellow human beings, so that they too could see God’s true loving heart.
And of course, when I think of Jesus, I can’t help but think of the cross. That’s why I have a large wooden cross in our garden to remind me of it even more.
On the cross, Jesus came to do what He was called to do, which was to die for the sins of all mankind. On the cross, He gave His life so that people can live.
Jesus came to exchange places with people. Sin’s punishment is death. You must pay with your life for the sins you commit. However, Jesus came and exchanged places with people and died in their place.
How unselfish! You see, it is Jesus’ passion for people and His relationship with His Father that moved Him to be sacrificed on the cross. He could not stop Himself.
The three qualities that stand out for me about Jesus are fellow human beings, relationship with God, and forgiveness. Maybe yours is the same; maybe yours is different. It doesn’t really matter. What does matter is that we imitate Jesus.
Actually, it’s a command: 6This is the only way to be sure we’re in God. Anyone who claims to be intimate with God ought to live the same kind of life Jesus lived.
As a child of God, you have a responsibility to live as the rest of the family does. You must follow the example set by Jesus.
Perhaps you should also now make a list of the characteristics of Jesus that stand out the most for you. Then make a point of making them part of your own life every day.
Scripture
1 John 2:3-9
Reflection
Which three characteristics of Jesus stand out for you?
Are they visible in your life?
Where should you go and live them?
Prayer
Jesus, You show us how to live. Help me make this come true in my life and put other people first on my list. Amen.
