Deuteronomy 34:4 Then and there God said to him, “This is the land I promised to your ancestors, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob with the words ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I’ve let you see it with your own eyes. There it is. But you’re not going to go in.”

Don’t you also feel sorry for Moses? After all the hard work and struggles to finally get the Israelites to the promised land, he was not allowed to go with them. But if you remember correctly, he made a mistake when he should have spoken to the rock so that water could flow out.

The Israelites had upset him, and he struck the rock twice. The water did flow from the rock, but in the process, he had ignored God’s command and did not honour God as he should have. When you do that, there are consequences.

But actually, the consequences weren’t that bad. Instead of entering the land of milk and honey, he entered heaven — a place of milk and honey and so much more. We so easily focus on earthly things, while the Divine reality is so much better.

Moses was an ordinary man who made his share of mistakes. There were times when his anger led to poor choices that reflected poorly on God’s character. Yet, the wonderful truth is that God never gave up on him.

We read further that God led Moses into the wilderness and buried him there Himself. No one could find his grave. This is an intimate conclusion to an intimate relationship between God and Moses.

The Lord who called him from the burning bush remained by his side every day as he led that difficult nation through the wilderness. At the very end, God carried Moses home in His arms, so to speak.

Our goal may not only be to enter the land of milk and honey, but to ultimately reach God Himself. Moses experienced the Lord’s presence until the end, even in his death.

Intimacy with God does not mean that you always get everything you want, but you will never lose God. He will be there to carry you until the end.

Father, thank You that You are always with me. May I never turn my back on You …

Write down one disappointment or one thing that hadn’t worked out the way you hoped.
Pray about it and give it to God intentionally, even if you don’t understand it.
Go for a walk alone today and remind yourself out loud, “God walks with me, to the end.”
