Our angels
A friend told me the following:
You know, a mother is always praying for her children. It’s the same with me and Lollapot. Often, I will let her know via WhatsApp that I have asked the Lord to surround her with a crowd of angels.
Friday morning, quite early, we received a call from her to say that she had been in a car accident. This is how I remember it:
On her way to work, a car cut right in front of her. Lollapot hit him with a massive crash.
She could hardly move her legs and her forehead was very sore. From the corner of her eye she saw the white car that she had hit slowly move forward and then he drove away!
To crown it all, a minibus taxi stopped on her right-hand side and she had another fright. A minute later, three men got out. Not just any men, but three traffic cops in uniform. Is that even possible?
They carefully got her out of the car, holding her upper body upright from behind and shuffled slowly the wrong way round until she could sit down on the sidewalk. She was dizzy and feeling nauseous.
In the meantime, as if called to the scene, a police car arrived. Cedric, the traffic officer, stopped them and pointed out the man who was driving away. Immediately, the blue lights and sirens were switched on and off they went in hot pursuit. They soon returned with the offender.
Shortly after she had sat down on the sidewalk, someone patted her on the shoulder. Two young men wanted to give her their phone numbers, because you see, they had witnessed the whole incident and wouldn’t hesitate to testify.
And then Cedric came to tell her that he had phoned for an ambulance to take her to hospital.
And they didn’t just take her to hospital, Cedric kept rubbing her back as the nausea threatened to overwhelm her. He held her hand when she started crying like a little child when the nurse struggled to find a vein. The child has an overwhelming phobia of needles!
As she lay in a room waiting for the medication to start working, a cleaner called ‘Auntie Lucy’ came in and asked if there was something she could do for this shocked, crying person. At least she could look in her handbag for her cell phone. And she promised to stay close, just in case. Can you imagine? It’s not her job, but she’s willing.
When we got there that afternoon, as I was helping her sticking the pain patches to her swollen neck and shoulder muscles, she told me the whole story. Tears of gratitude ran down my face. Before going on, I took her hand and prayed: ‘Thank you, Lord! Thank you for the crowd of angels around my child this morning!’
Cedric, Auntie Lucy, policemen and witnesses, all of them God’s angels on duty. They were filled with God. 12… We’re being shown … how to take on a God-filled, God-honoring life.
We must be angels too. Today, everywhere, all the time.

Reflection
Do you see yourself as an angel?
Do you realise that God wants to use you?
Where?
Prayer
Holy Spirit, please help me to always listen and see where You want to use me in other people’s lives. Please show me where I can help someone overcome a difficulty today. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
