God's word in today's world

Our soul must choose

The summary of The Law says that we must love God with all our heart and soul and strength and mind. With our whole being and with everything in us, we must serve God. There should not be even a small part of us that is not dedicated to God.

The terms heart and mind and with all our strength are quite easy to understand. But have you ever thought about what your soul is? We must understand what our soul consists of because it is our soul that continues to live forever.

All people who have lived, who live now, and who will live, have a soul. We receive our soul the day we are born. That was when God breathed His breath into us and our life on earth began.

Our soul is not physical, like our body. George McDonald said we don’t have a soul. We do have a body, but we are soul. Can I say it again: we do not have a soul. You do have a body, but you are soul.

The day I leave my earthly body behind, my soul lives on. And there is only one of two places where my soul can end up. One is heaven and the other is not heaven. You know where that is, don’t you?!

I am convinced that we’re all put on earth to make one choice. The choice is to decide in which group we want to live for the rest of our lives. Do we choose the One who breathed life into us and gave birth to our soul or do we choose the other group?

The choice we make here on earth has a huge influence on our future. If I understand it correctly, the human soul does not die. So, if you choose on earth to accept Jesus as your Saviour, your soul lives on forever with Him in God’s dwelling.

And when does Eternal Life begin? I made a small mistake here. I thought that we enter Eternal Life the day our body leaves the world.

But that’s not right. Our Eternal Life has already begun. The day we accepted Jesus as our only Lord, our Eternal Life arrived. We are already living forever.

Unfortunately, many people do not choose this, like all the people in Noah’s village. 20You know, even though God waited patiently all the days that Noah built his ship, only a few were saved then, eight to be exact

God is patient and constantly gives people opportunities to choose Him. But instead of Noah’s fellow villagers opening their eyes and repenting, they chose to laugh. And today, their souls are not in heaven.

We must be serious about this and be sure that we have indeed chosen Jesus as our Saviour. We must make sure that our loved ones have also made that choice, and if not, we must be an example for them, so that one day they too will choose God.

1 Peter 3:19-22

Reflection
Where is your soul now?
Where is your soul going?
Who should you help with their soul?

Prayer
Father, I just want to reaffirm that I accept Jesus as my Saviour and Redeemer. Thank you that my soul will live forever with You. Amen.
