Out of the stream, under the tree, ready to save
I find something else in verse one. The New KJV helps me: Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus …
Three truths jump out: “Holy brethren” refer to holy brothers and sisters as well. This title is given to each of who believe. You are holy. And by now we know that holy means to be set apart for God.
God lifted us from the ordinary flow of life and put us down in a special place beside the river of life under a tree. We’re different from the others. No, not to be superior, but to become a rescue station under that tree for those who are being pulled along by the stream of life.
And we here under the tree, in the shadow of life, each has a heavenly calling. It makes us really special.
When life is hard, we must know and believe and hold onto the knowledge that God has nominated us to make a difference with our gifts. What are you good at? What appears naturally in you? Something that you without having learnt to do, without having to think about it.
Are you good with your hands? Oris your intellect better? Or do you talk easily and smoothly?
This is a reflection of your worth. It gives you new meaning to realise that the Heavenly Father has a heavenly calling for each of us, WOW!
Please excuse me for using this example here, but it will explain the point a little better: I received a gift to write and it’s kind of obvious. My uncle was the well-known Afrikaans writer, Boerneef. My father wrote more than 100 hymns. My sister is the book editor at a well-known Afrikaans newspaper company. It comes with the blood; it runs in my veins.
When I realise that God calls me from heaven to work here on earth and mixes it with my gift, then I have no choice but to let my fingers run over the keyboard to save others from the stream of life.
You have a heavenly calling as well and I am convinced that it will involve your gifts to some extent.
Thirdly, we have a perfect example in Jesus. He was so faithful to his heavenly calling here on earth. From the beginning, He was not in the stream, but on the banks to save people from hell.
You are so special. Don’t allow someone else or your own mind to tell you differently. Believe in your calling from God and go and live it under the tree next to the river. You may be the one that saves someone else.

Reflection
What are your gifts?
What is your calling?
Where do you have to go and live them?
Prayer
Thanks for this one, God. I feel better already. Actually, I want to get out and help others. Please show me how and where. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
