As soon as something happens in the world, everyone has an opinion. Suddenly everyone knows everything there is to know about everything. And with social media, everyone has a platform to share their opinion. 

It was a big shock when a four-storey building in George collapsed during construction. It was traumatic to see the building standing one moment, then reduced to concrete, bricks and deformed steel the next.  

The trauma that the survivors and all the other workers’ families experienced is indescribable. 

Immediately, the speculation started on all social network platforms. The concrete was not yet dry. The pillars were too thin or too far apart. The plugs were pulled too quickly and suddenly everyone was certified engineers and contractors. 

We all had to wait for the experts to arrive. With all the photos and video material and their knowledge, I believe they could sniff out what was lacking and who was responsible. 

One can only know if one knows. You can only express an opinion if you have the knowledge, otherwise, it’s just noise. 

Do you know when one begins to know God and Jesus? When you walk in the will of God. A true understanding of God and Jesus comes from walking in His will and obeying His commandments. 

God reveals Himself to people who have a relationship with Him. 

3Here’s how we can be sure that we know God in the right way: Keep his commandments. 

Structural engineers need to know about forces. They must know about all the properties of all the materials used in the construction. They must know exactly how the materials interact with each other and how nature affects them. If they lack knowledge and build incorrectly, the likelihood of a catastrophic outcome is significant. 

We gain knowledge of God by walking on His path, acting within His will and obeying His commands. During this walk with Him, we get to know more and more about God in an intimate relationship. 

We get to know God within this relationship as Lawgiver, Teacher, King, Parent and Friend. In walking together and learning who God is, we begin to act like Him and become more and more like His children. 

Yes, we strive to emulate the characteristics of a child of God in the world. Then we become more like our brother Jesus, and we can live a life that saves others. 

May we read more of God’s Word and get to know Him better. Then we’ll learn how to really make a difference in the world.
