Humans are group animals. Most of us like doing things the way the rest of humanity does it. We don’t like being marginalised, because it’s not that nice on the edge of society. It’s cold there. 

Businesses understand this human tendency very well, that’s why they use it to fill their coffers. That’s why they constantly design new fashions and items that people rush to buy, just to fit in and stay part of the in crowd. 

People are willing to pay a lot for it. Yes, sometimes they pay with their soul, just to fit in. People like to swim with the current, just so they’re not left on their own and kicked out of the group. 

It’s not wrong to fit in. It’s even less wrong to be ahead of the curve with fashion. It’s also not wrong to take the lead in creating new fashions. 

As long as we don’t pay too much for it. Paying with your soul is too expensive and certainly not worth it. 

The inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah all fit in. Everyone adopted the lifestyle of the day and did like the rest of the town’s residents. Unfortunately, the price was way too high. 

God was about to wipe out these two towns. 

For Abraham, it was a bitter pill to swallow, because his nephew, Lot, also lived there. Therefore, he pleaded with God not to do it. God agreed on one condition: Abraham must bring Him 10 people who did not do like the others and lived within His guidelines. 

Among all the many people fitting in, Abraham could not find 10 people who lived within God’s guidelines. And … 

6-7God decreed destruction for the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. A mound of ashes was all that was left—grim warning to anyone bent on an ungodly life. But that good man Lot, driven nearly out of his mind by the sexual filth and perversity, was rescued. 

According to the townspeople, Lot did not fit in. He did not do as they did and most likely he and his family were relegated to the fringes of society. If they organised a gathering, Lot and his family were not invited. 

And why didn’t he fit in? He stood in the right relationship with God. It made him fit in with God. Because Lot stood in this right relationship with God, he was wise enough to make the right choices in the world. 

It’s actually a good suggestion for us. If you want wisdom to know how to live in the world, make sure your relationship with God is healthy. This is where you will learn how you should live to truly fit in.

Prayer
Father, thank you for the warning. Yes, it’s not wrong to fit in with the world. Just help us not to forget You. Help us to always remain in a good relationship with You. Amen.
