God's word in today's world

Share the truth

Grandpa is visiting. We are working, so grandpa is left to his own devices. I watch him. He is constantly on his phone. By lunch time he has to go and charge his phone, because his screen time is gobbling up the battery.

In the beginning, grandpa didn’t even know where to switch on a cell phone and now his phone is his best mate. Astonishing! this is how he and his pals communicate, even though they’re on the other side of 80. They share jokes and stories, but they also like to share testimonies, Bible stories and short sermons with one another. They encourage one another and keep each other going in the right direction.

It’s really amazing how easy technology has made communication. How wonderful it would have been for Paul if all this technology had been available in his time!

Paul’s meeting with Jesus had such a huge impact on his life that he simply could not keep silent about it. He had to spread that message with all he had. He used everything at his disposal and did not allow any challenge to push him off course. Even the fact that he did not write well did not hold him back. He got someone else to write for him.

He had to get the truth to as many people as possible. This was a heavenly calling for him: 4I’ve been entrusted to proclaim this Message by order of our Saviour, God himself.

He had to share the knowledge that he had received about how to be a Christian in the world, about how to believe. He had to tell the world the truth about a loving God who could not stop Himself from making a brilliant plan to save his children from eternal fire. He simply had to.

It is not much different today. Each of us who is called a child of God has been instructed to share God’s Word. The world really needs it. The world is muddling along in the dark. People bump into one another. People destroy and break, even one another, because they have no idea what is truth and what is a great lie.

People walk past open church doors just to walk into a wall around the next corner. People lose hope and see no light at the end of the tunnel. Look around you. See how negative people are.

I hang my head in shame when I realise that I’m part of the cause, because I don’t share the truth with my pals. No, I know I don’t have to go and preach on street corners, but simply by living my life the right way I can show the truth to others. That is my calling. All of us who are children of God have been commanded to switch on the light in our dark world.

And it’s so simple to do by clicking on that share button.

50 South African artists surprised Johnny Clegg, then suffering from cancer, by recording his song, The Crossing (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKWEEpA0HkY&feature=youtu.be). It really touched me – so beautiful, it sent chills down my spine. I shared it with nearly 100 people.

If I could only share God’s truth effectively like that, how different the people around me would have been by now …

Scripture
Titus 1:1-4

Reflection
Do you believe you are also called to share the Truth?
How can you do it?
With whom?

Prayer
Father, You have done so much for us. You have completely changed my life. You are the Light of my life. You chase away the darkness and help me to keep on standing. Please give me the strength to let your Light shine for others. Amen.
