Strength to face the monster
I’ve had times when I’ve felt the water is too deep. Times when I’ve felt I had absolutely no strength left to tread water to keep my head above the water. Times when I’ve hardly even kept my nose above water.
I still remember waking up at night from stress about the business’ finances or the nights rolling around in my own sweat about the union challenging all the time. Yes, many times in my life I felt far too weak for the challenges lying ahead.
Maybe that’s where you are now. Maybe you also do not feel up to tackling the challenge you are facing.
Then this verse is specially for you: 33Through acts of faith, they toppled kingdoms, made justice work, took the promises for themselves.
Did David’s knees start shaking when he saw the huge giant before him? Yes, he was brave; he had killed a lion with his bare hands before, but that was different. It was him and the lion; no crowd watching from the sidelines.
And now, this enormous man was standing before him. Thousands of soldiers are watching his every step. What if he misses completely with his slingshot? It wasn’t only about the total humiliation and that he would’ve been branded a bigmouth and poor shot, but also that many of his people would die.
But David goes ahead. He takes the chance, because he believes. His faith in God is strong, and he knows God will help him through this challenge.
He also believes in his own ability. He knows he is accurate with his slingshot. He knows he can take a straight shot. But that’s not enough. He needs God to put power behind that little stone. And that is what he believes in. He believes in God’s power. He believes that God will provide. He believes that God will make what he does even more powerful, and the impossible possible.
And that’s the way it happened. Boof! And the giant was down!
In my time as a farm manager or working in the business, my pants also trembled each time I had to face a giant, because I knew how small I was and that I was weak. But when I look back at each of those challenges now, I can see that we overcame them. I say “we”, because God joined the battle and made me strong.
This message is specially for you today. You may be right that you are too weak to tackle the giant standing before you. But God promises you that He will make you strong in the same way that He helped David and made him strong enough to overcome Goliath. He will give you the strength to conquer the monster standing before you.
Remember, you do what is possible and God will help you make the impossible possible.

What does your monster look like?
Do you feel weak?
Do you believe that God will give you the strength to overcome the monster?
Prayer
Father, I feel too weak for the challenge facing me. This monster is so huge; he will get me. Thank you for the promise that You will give me strength. Please give it to me now. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
